The location of the uni is great - a very inviting environment all around. The main building and the SU are basically inside parks, which makes going about your day on campus quite pleasant. The lecturers and tutors tend to be very responsive and eager to help in any way they can. I haven't experienced any form of.. let's say, embarrassment when asking for help. The welcoming vibes from the faculty is just amazing. The SU is also really great! Just the amount of little events being hosted there is incredible! Almost every week you'd walk into the building, and there's a stall in the hall with people giving out free salad bowls. Stuff like that, I find, boosts the morale and the feeling of being welcomed and wanted as a student. As well as that, the countless clubs and societies are such a great ay of bringing people together. I am a part of the Traditional Crafts society, which is hosted at SU, and I've learnt skills with the society I never thought I would...like, leather binding ? Wow! I'm terms of improvement, nothing comes to mind. Perhaps, some sort of signage around campus could be great? With the amount of little tiny offices all around the Botanic, it can sometimes be really difficult to find the one you're looking for. Looking for street signs can sometimes be time consuminh and, frankly, annoying. So, like a classic arrows-on-a-pole kinda thing would be amazing!

Great social life, good options for student societies, a lot of student support. A lot of professionals teaching on the course and it gave me exactly what I wanted for my career progression into genetics

The best is the period supplements and there’s so many coffees shops around the school. However, I gonna say that somehow finding books in library could be a challenge since some labels are not that clear

It has multiple different campus’s at different locations on london, which is great for when you want to study. The facilities are always clean and staff are generally very friendly. Majority of lectures I have had have been very helpful and you can learn a lot from them. There are also so many great opportunities to help your career development which is great. I think the social aspect of the university needs improving, there are many societies but a lot of these don’t host many events.

The most positive point is the student support, so many ways to reach out for help regarding your studies and future carrer plans! In terms of student life I feel that while the university has a strong international presence, its student body is less nationally diverse compared to other universities, where international enrolment is spread across a wider range of countries.

We're lacking a lot in terms of music facilities, or facilities available are very old/decrepid. Bangor is a very beautiful area, however ot is a struggle to get around with mobility issues. Everyone here is friendly as we're a small community. It has a cosy, warm vibe.

I love all the student deals. However, I feel like many of the student activity processes could be streamlined as it seems so overwhelming as a foreigner/first-year. Like, having to book a ticket, but then still waiting in line or an event being overbooked via ticketing that people are dissuaded to come. Then, when the event takes place, the ticket holders don’t even come.

The best aspects of my university experience have been the sense of community and the opportunities for personal and academic growth. My course is taught by passionate lecturers who make the subject feel relevant and engaging, and I’ve appreciated how approachable most staff are when I need help. There are also plenty of extracurricular activities and societies, which made it easy to meet people with similar interests. The campus facilities—like the library, study spaces, and wellbeing services—have also been a big part of what makes it a great place to study. In terms of what could be improved, there are a few key areas. Communication between departments could sometimes be clearer, especially around deadlines and timetable changes. At busy times of the year, access to study spaces can become limited, and more quiet areas or longer opening hours would make a difference. It would also help if there were more practical, hands-on learning opportunities such as placements, workshops, or industry links, as these really enhance understanding and employability. Overall, the university offers a supportive and stimulating environment, but with better organisation and more resources during peak periods, the student experience could be even stronger.

The best part of studying at the University of Essex is definitely the amazing campus. There are a lot of study spots in different places, cafes, the library, the student center, lecture or tutorial rooms… The student life is amazing thanks to the campus bar and nightclub. It makes it so easy to go out and have fun with your uni friends safely!! There is always something to do, an activity planned, en event or a party, and that’s amazing. The online resources work really well, and are perfect to conduct independent study in the best conditions. If i had to say what should be improved i would maybe say first of all the fact that there isn’t a lot of visibility when it comes to exam dates : it makes it hard especially for international students to plan ahead when it comes to going home for breaks, but it also is limiting for local students in terms of organization. The tapping-in for lectures and tutorials is very practical but it makes it very stressful if you have to miss a class because you are sick for example or if you have something urgent because it can feel like you might not get the authorization to do so, and if you don’t you get absences which can endanger your visa. It is important to check attendance, but for local students who don’t have a visa it really should be their own choice to go to lectures or not. Another downside is that all activities take place on wednesday afternoons which makes it challenging if you want to do multiple things, maybe a sport, a society and volunteering : most of the time you can’t and i think it is a shame, activities should be more dispatched around the week. I think one thing that is lacking is more healthy food options on campus, i feel like they are less approachable and less present.
