As a first year online student, the overall impression so far has not been good. Previously, I studied at the Open University and when comparing the two, I wish I had continued my study there. While distance learning is beneficial for myself and current circumstances, I had high hopes that teaching and learning would remain at a high level, especially while studying at a Masters level. Sadly, this has not been the case. My first module was filled with contradicting information regarding how assessments would be carried out, deadlines, and word counts with guidance often saying one thing and tutors saying another. The second module which I am currently studying is based on data. I have limited knowledge on this subject and would have hoped for more in-depth teaching rather than one or two 10 minute micro-lectures each week, which mostly sum up a chapter from a book that we are required to read. Alongside this, guidance stated that answer keys would be released for quizzes undertaken as part of the assessment. This has not been the case, therefore, students have had zero feedback or opportunity to reflect on their learning. There is no opportunity for online student to feel like they 'belong' to the university with all Student Union clubs/events taking place on campus. The only interactions I've had with other students studying online has been via discussion forums and a group WhatsApp set up by the students. In future, it would be beneficial if module guidance could be reviewed more often, therefore limiting the contradicting information that confuses students. It would also be extremely helpful to have 'live' lectures where students can actively participate and ask questions, rather than pre-recorded micro-lectures that last for 10 minutes. Alongside this, online opportunities could be provided to distance learning students such as online book clubs, monthly bingo games, online chat rooms, fun quiz nights, wellbeing check-in groups, etc.

I found Oxford Brookes University a great opportunity to study interesting modules, having simultaneously the possibility to do interesting activities such as field trips in Oxford and London. I have free a lot of free time that allows me to do what I love the most, sport. I would prefer if Brookes University offered us more opportunities of Exchange Study Abroad and more field trips around UK.

The area has a very town-ish feel, not too busy with a very homely feel to it. Lecturers are very quick to respond to queries and always provide extremely helpful advice and explain things very well. One slight improvement would be the advertisements of all the societies we have at bangor, as I can’t seem to find the full list of things I can get involved in whilst here

The RAU is located in a suitable environment for the courses it has to offer. The Lecturers are very knowledgeable and are invested in imparting said knowledge. The institution boasts of a very diverse student body which I am enjoying. The field visits have opened my mind to more possibilities and the support program they have available is best suited for success in various careers.

A great place to study is quiet, comfortable, and well-equipped. It should have minimal distractions, good lighting, ergonomic seating, and reliable internet access. Access to books, study materials, and charging stations also enhances productivity. To improve, better noise control, upgraded furniture, improved lighting, and more study zones can make the space even more effective. Small changes, like adding quiet areas or enhancing technology access, can create an ideal study environment.

The University of Wolverhampton has multiple campuses and the 'feel' you get will vary according to the Faculty you study with. For example, if you study Education, Healthcare or Sport, you will be mainly at the Walsall campus, which is located in a very safe, affluent part of the town and has a spacious, leafy feel and lots of car parking space. In other Faculties, you will be based mainly in the city centre of Wolverhampton itself. This means your experience has a big city, 'urban' feel. Great if you like to be close to nightlife and shopping ! Libraries are at all campuses, with friendly staff who are very patient. The online access to books and papers is also fantastic if you do research and study at home. The university is popular with international students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. This adds to the richness of your student experience, as you can meet and make friends with people from all over the world. Furthermore, like many of the modern, teaching universities, it has always played a central part in its local community. The university has stayed true to its 'roots' in this respect and still welcomes local students from the West Midlands and Staffordshire in the 21st century. Lots of students live at home and commute to university every day, as this represents a big financial saving for them. Again, this trend is becoming increasingly common nationally, and so may be an option for you. Part of the reason the university is so much part of the local community is its history of being the choice of university for local mature students. If you are a mature student (like me!) who is considering which university to choose, Wolverhampton will prove to be an excellent choice as it has a proven and longstanding track record in the field. Staff are very accustomed to working with students of all age groups. Staff are very experienced and very approachable. There is very much a 'caring' culture among staff at the university, which makes it a god choice if you are feeling anxious about starting at university. In addition, there is 24/7 support available for students, so there is always someone there to support you if you are experiencing any kind of difficulties. There is just one thing I would like to see improve. During term time, Monday to Friday, there used to be free buses which connected the Walsall and Wolverhampton city campuses door to door. These were stopped in 2024, and it would be good to see them back again. Having said that, there are local buses which run a similar route and they run from dawn to late Monday to Sunday !

Couldn’t be happier to have picked SRUC for veterinary nursing! It’s very practical based and really hands on which I love a lot. The lecturers are lovely and in our online (for now) lectures they make sure to try and keep us engaged and give us breaks as they know online learning can be a bit difficult and most of all they try to make it fun! If you’re looking to do veterinary nursing in Scotland I’d definitely recommend SRUC - you might be a bit hesitant at first since it’s out in the countryside and not a city but it’s definitely worth it for the practical learning than you receive on farm etc.

Best; community feel, uni is quite isolated so you form close bonds with your friends and it’s easy to meet new people. Worst; it’s difficult to get around if you didn’t have a car, not many shops in walking distance and poor public transport - however there is an hourly minibus

The campus is beautiful, you can walk down to equine to see the horses, walk around the garden of hartpury house or walk the short distance down to the Home Farm through the lovely scenery. The facilities are great, and even more are being built and are on the way.
