Best aspects of studying Psychology at NTU: One of the strongest aspects is how structured and career-focused the course is. The modules are clearly organised, and there’s a strong emphasis on applying psychological theory to real-world settings, which makes the content feel relevant rather than purely academic. The teaching staff are generally approachable and knowledgeable, and many have practical or research experience that they bring into lectures and seminars. Another highlight is the range of resources available. NTU provides good access to online journals, research databases, and study spaces, which is especially useful for assignments and dissertations. The course also gradually builds your research skills, particularly in statistics and methods, which are essential for psychology but often difficult—NTU tends to scaffold this learning quite well. The campus environment is also a plus. It’s modern, well-maintained, and has a supportive atmosphere. There are plenty of societies and opportunities to get involved, which helps balance academic work with social life. Worst aspects / areas for improvement: A common challenge is the heavy focus on statistics and research methods, which can feel overwhelming—especially if you don’t have a strong maths background. While support is available, it can sometimes feel fast-paced, and not everyone finds the teaching style in this area accessible. Another downside is that feedback on assignments can occasionally be inconsistent or not detailed enough to clearly guide improvement. This can make it harder to understand how to progress between grades. Some lectures, particularly in larger modules, can feel quite impersonal due to class size. More interactive or discussion-based sessions would improve engagement and deepen understanding. Finally, like many psychology degrees, there can be a gap between theory and hands-on experience. More placement opportunities or practical exposure (e.g., working with clients or in applied settings) would make the course even stronger for those planning careers in mental health or applied psychology. What makes it a great place overall? Strong academic structure and clear progression Good research training and resources Supportive environment and modern campus Career-relevant content Top tips for improvement: More tailored support for statistics and methods More detailed and consistent assignment feedback Increased interactive teaching (seminars, discussions) Greater access to placements or practical experience

Studying at Birmingham Newman University has been a really positive experience overall. One of the best aspects is the strong sense of community — it’s a smaller university, which makes it feel more supportive and personal. Lecturers are approachable and genuinely invested in students’ progress, and it’s much easier to build relationships with both staff and classmates compared to larger universities. Another highlight is the campus environment. It’s compact and easy to navigate, with a friendly atmosphere that helps you feel comfortable quickly. The focus on student wellbeing and support services is also a big plus, especially during busy or stressful periods. That said, there are areas that could be improved. Because it’s a smaller university, facilities and resources can feel a bit limited compared to bigger institutions. There could also be more variety in extracurricular activities and societies to give students a wider university experience. Overall, it’s a great place to study if you value a close-knit, supportive environment, but expanding resources and opportunities would make the experience even better.

Having come to this campus, the atmosphere and pure friendliness of the staff is unmatched. being a mature student, i had worries and doubts about fitting in and falling behind, however, the uni of Sussex has supported and welcomed me in every way possible. the facilities provided are unmatched, with a variety of places to help give the best uni experience and education. and the societies at this school are so versatile! the only potential critic i have is having a cheaper option for shopping on site, but that's not much in contrast to what i and many others have been given :)

The staff are always so friendly and really keen to help. The support we receive seems to be to a much higher standard than other universities. The most inconvenient aspect of it would probably be how it is not located in the city centre however it is only a short bus ride away and can be walked

Everyone I have met has been friendly and helpful. There are plenty of societies to join and the student union bar is great for a bit of socialisation on the side. I wish there were more green spaces to sit and quiet areas like the library dotted around. Parking is a bit hit and miss but there's plenty of buses.

It's great because you do everything when you have time. The coarse tells you how much time you will need and you fit it in around your circumstances. The OU library is available 24 hours a day so always someone to help no matter what the time. The forums always have someone up late or really early! The tutors provide excellent feedback and are quick to respond

Many counselling courses also include practical experiences and work placements, giving you the chance to work with real patients and put your knowledge into practice. This broad and multi-disciplinary subject area will help prepare you for a career in numerous job roles, such as teaching, counselling, nursing, social work and youth work. You may need to go into postgraduate study before getting employment in some of these roles.
