As an international student, I have been fortunate to experience exceptional support and nurturing relationships throughout my academic journey. The faculty and staff have gone above and beyond to ensure that I feel welcomed and included in the campus community. They have provided valuable resources and guidance, helping me navigate not only my coursework but also the cultural adjustments that come with studying abroad. This strong network of support has made my transition smoother and has allowed me to thrive both academically and personally.

What students say about dental-hygiene

It is difficult to answer this, as I am not on campus very often. I enrolled in a full-time Podiatry degree; however, my timetable only requires me to attend lectures and seminars on Mondays and Tuesdays, for just two to four hours per day. As a result, the course structure does not reflect what I would expect from a full-time programme. I feel that paying full-time tuition fees is not proportionate to the amount of teaching delivered, which is limited to only two days per week (not full days). I would strongly prefer having full, scheduled days of lectures rather than having the material spread out over many months. I would also welcome more hands-on learning opportunities, such as access to a student clinic. Unfortunately, the University does not offer additional clinical experience beyond the compulsory placement. During Year 2, I did not see any patients for ten months due to placement dates being spread far apart. This is a long period for a student and resulted in a loss of confidence and a deterioration of previously learned skills. One positive aspect I would like to highlight is the student ball, which was exceptionally well organised. It was a thoroughly enjoyable event that provided a great opportunity for students to socialise, unwind, and feel part of the wider university community. The level of organisation and attention to detail reflected a significant amount of effort and was very much appreciated.

What students say about dental-hygiene

Based on my time here, the University of Huddersfield is an excellent choice if you're looking for a career-focused degree and a supportive learning environment. The standout feature is definitely the teaching quality, backed by the Gold TEF rating, as nearly all my lecturers were genuine experts who were passionate and approachable. The modern, compact campus is a big plus—everything is central, from the state-of-the-art library (great during exam season!) to the specialist labs, and the fact that Huddersfield itself is a really affordable student town makes a huge difference. While the local nightlife might not rival a big city like Manchester, the focus on practical skills, the strong emphasis on industry placements, and the overall sense of community made my experience highly rewarding and put me in a great position for my career.

My worst experience has been with my transfer to CCCU from another uni. It took weeks to get my timetable and on blackboard therefore I had no access to class resources. As well as sorting out my finances with the accounts teams. However my best experience had been the Students who have helped me when I have been having technical issues.

What students say about dental-hygiene

The university provides a very supportive and engaging learning environment. As a psychology student, I am gaining strong academic knowledge through well structured lectures and clear course content. The tutors are highly professional, approachable, and knowledgeable, which makes learning enjoyable and effective. One area for improvement could be student support services, as quicker responses and more consistent guidance would further enhance the overall international student experience.

What students say about dental-hygiene

My experience at London South Bank University has been overwhelmingly positive, and I truly believe it is a great place to study and grow as a student. One of the best aspects of LSBU is the supportive and approachable staff. Lecturers and academic advisors are always willing to help, whether it’s explaining difficult coursework, giving career advice, or providing guidance during assignments. Their friendly attitude creates a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing confidence in their studies. Another major strength of LSBU is its focus on practical, career-oriented learning. The university provides modern labs, well-equipped classrooms, and industry-standard facilities that help students gain real-world experience. For many courses, practical sessions, workshops, and hands-on projects make learning more engaging and directly relevant to future careers. This practical approach is one of the main reasons LSBU graduates are well-prepared for the workforce. The location is also a huge advantage. Being in Central London means students have easy access to internships, part-time jobs, networking events, and professional opportunities. Public transport links around the campus are excellent, which makes commuting simple and convenient. Additionally, studying in such a vibrant, diverse city exposes you to many cultures and experiences that broaden your perspective and personal growth. LSBU is also known for its diversity. Students come from many different backgrounds and countries, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. Interacting with a wide range of people enriches both academic and social life, and helps build strong communication skills and global awareness. The Students’ Union plays an important role in making campus life enjoyable. They organise events, clubs, and societies that help students socialise, develop hobbies, and take breaks from academic pressure. From cultural celebrations to academic workshops and sports activities, the SU offers something for everyone. It also supports student welfare and actively listens to student concerns. While my experience has been largely positive, there are a few areas that could be improved to make the university experience even better. Administrative processes, such as timetabling or enrollment updates, can sometimes be slow or unclear. Improved communication and faster responses would make things easier for students, especially during busy periods like the start of term. Additionally, although the accommodations are comfortable and close to campus, they can be quite expensive because of the London location. More affordable housing options would be very helpful for students on a tight budget. Lastly, while LSBU already hosts a number of events, increasing the number of career-oriented workshops, industry meetups, and networking sessions would make a big difference. These events help students make valuable connections and understand the professional world more deeply. Overall, London South Bank University offers a strong combination of academic support, practical teaching, modern facilities, and an excellent central London location. The friendly atmosphere, diversity, and active student life create a positive and motivating environment for learning. With a few improvements in communication and affordability, the university could provide an even better experience. Despite those small areas for development, LSBU remains a great place to study, grow, and prepare for future opportunities

The careers team is amazing at posting job listings. They are so proactive in getting you the right support and I love that about them. And I think the structure of some teaching material could be improved with bringing the right balance of AI into studies

I think the university has dropped of in terms of maintenance to ensure night life is good around campus leading to it feeling like a ghost time sometimes. A positive aspect for the university experience is the lecturers, who constantly make time for you

Studying dental hygiene

Studying dental hygiene teaches you to deliver dental care as well as covering topics such as patient service and clinical skills. You’ll learn how to scale teeth, polish teeth and apply topical fluoride and fissure sealants throughout your degree. Most courses are accredited by the General Dental Council, which means upon graduation you’ll be able to register with the General Dental Council and start practicing. Most graduates go on to work as dental hygienists. In this job, you’ll be helping patients of all ages care for their teeth and gums. Most dental hygienist roles are within dental practices, but you could also work in a hospital or community dental service.
