Sort:Latest reviewsBest aspects: The lectures are always interesting and the lecturers are incredibly approachable. The content is engaging and challenging, and the lecturers ensure that you are being pushed enough by it. The cyberzone facility is fantastic too, with plenty of network components making it easy to visualise complex network setups. Plus there's a Lidl close by, so that's a perk... Negative aspects: The coding (at least in first year) is all done in C# in Visual Studio, so very Microsoft + Windows based, and tough to get by running a Linux laptop (though possible), which is a little dissapointing for a Computer Science course. The guidance around projects can sometimes be a little thin and require asking lecturers for clarification, though in my experience, they always provide it when asked.

Overall, my tops options are the Student Support and Facilities that University of Sunderland has to offer to the students. This uear I enjoyed, the support because I when I needed help, I was supported with the staff till the end and the facilities are helping me with my studies where I can pratice in simulations and do my work in the libraries.
There’s a vibe of togetherness
The facilities are fantastic, especially for the healthcare courses as we have state of the art equipment and programmes. Everyone at Sunderland is so kind and always willing to help. The SU is always holding trips and events so it’s a good way to get out of the city. The only negative I would say is that Sunderland isn’t very student friendly, there’s not much to do here. However, that being said, it does have a lower cost of living than bigger cities and its only a 30 min metro ride straight into Newcastle City Centre which is a big city with lots of student spots to check out. Therefore I would say its a cheap option with an absolutely fantastic University but is very close to some great places.
Great university with brilliant support and resources for my course, I can’t recommend the tutors enough! Good communication, course content and online access is helpful, particularly canvas and library.
Great university especially for students living at home. St Peter’s and city campus are both very accessible. Only problem is on site parking prices, £6 a day is very expensive especially for those who do 3 or more days a week. Lecturers are very supportive and helpful, always answer any questions and have time to help every student.
Offer more social gatherings for students. I feel that because I live at home I didn’t get the full experience.
It offers a large of subjects to be studied and each of the lecturers go into detail about the specific topics needed. From experience, as someone who communes, there are no ways it could be improved that would drastically improve it. Its overall a very good University.
It has a supportive system in place and it is practical for learning. I have not had a bad experience so far, hence, I will not be able to comment on worst aspects.
Amazing university, easy to access along with great facilities and lecturers
The module leaders, lecturers are adopting suggestion from last year students to modify the lecture content, increase lab sessions and adjust workload of assignment . Improvement: the placement opportunities are crucial for students to gain experience in UK and should be more encouraged and make it mandatory as one of the modules Some lecturers are just reading the slides without really explaining the theory, eg. lecture on rheology is condense and difficult but not explained properly When doing group projects, peer marking within the group should have some impact on the final score, currently the peer marking only 5% of the assignment and others have to put extra effort to fill in the gap Lab sessions should schedule longer to ensure everyone had the opportunity to do hands on lab instead of rushing through every time
The University of Sunderland is a friendly, and affordable place to study while being in the city. Facilities are modern, with good labs, libraries, and sports facilities. Student support is particularly strong, whether that is wellbeing, academic help, or general guidance. While student living is quite lively, it is not overwhelming, with things like societies and group student activities, as well as plenty of local activities Overall, it is a fairly supportive university in a welcoming city, mixing affordability and liveliness.

I chose to study at the University of Sunderland because it has a strong reputation for specialising in Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, and allied healthcare professions, therefore I knew Sunderland would be the most suitable place for me to study and progress in my healthcare career studying Audiology. What really stood out to me was the university’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere it’s a place where you can integrate with a diverse community of students from all backgrounds, and where everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential. Another key reason I chose Sunderland is the level of support available. The university truly values its students and provides guidance that suits all needs and learning styles. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely want to help you succeed, which is reflected in Sunderland being ranked first in the Northeast for teaching quality and among the top ten universities in the UK for teaching excellence. Sunderland itself has become a fast-developing city, and the university has benefitted from multi-million-pound investments, creating modern facilities and resources to enhance student experience. It’s a great place to live and study, with so many opportunities for the future for example the construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art eye hospital just a stone’s throw from campus. Overall, I’m confident that choosing the University of Sunderland was the right decision for me. It’s a place where I can continue developing my skills, knowledge, and confidence.
I really enjoy the variety in how my course is taught. As a practical learner, there are many opportunities to actively engage and immerse myself in hands-on learning. The course also includes a placement component, which allows me to put my theoretical knowledge into practice and further develop my skills in a real-world setting.
