Best - student support Worst - student bar is hardly open
Great Community spirt, like one big family Good communications Great SU Could improve better communication from sports fed to clubs
I like Marjon Stores
Good - marjon stores Bad - parking
Best: PDT is brilliant and always there if you need help Worst: Some staff have outdated perspectives of SEND and that can be challenging on an SEND course
Love the proximity to the sea. The new health and wellbeing hub is amazing with great facilities. Student life and involvement could be improved but location makes it hard as slightly out of city centre.
Campus is in a gorgeous area, surrounded by nature with the hospital and shops nearby which is very convenient. The library is full of great resources and has wonderful staff who provide helpful sessions and support. There is decent transport links to the city centre but there could be better services - faster & running later at night. There is two small cafes and a shop on campus, which are convenient but pricey with a limited range of stock. There is a lack of typical university dining experience as there is no food hall or cafeteria with multiple options. Despite this the seating and cafe area have great indoor and outdoor spaces. The major highlight of the campus is the green spaces, which students are encouraged to make use of and enjoy. The campus also has a wooded area behind it and a larger woodland within a five minute walk. Deer, rabbits and other wildlife can often be seen around, sometimes even running past windows and disrupting lectures! The student support seems okay on the surface, but probably needs to be expanded to better be able to care for the whole student population. The long waits for support, such as counselling, which has a month waiting list currently, and lack of/delays to responses and follow ups can be problematic for those students in need. However, the finding supports is quite good, with the university providing a few different bursaries for students experiencing hardship. The teaching is also brilliant, with the small class sizes, personal tutors, and peer-assisted learning scheme providing a supportive and effective learning environment. Some of the newer accommodation is great, but students on a budget are stuck with outdated halls with a number of issues and far too little space for the amount of students. The student union sometimes puts on good events and there are many sports societies, but events are either infrequent or low effort so attendance is often low. Additionally, there is a lack of societies and activities for students who are not as sporty. Overall, it’s a great place to study, with brilliant teaching staff, lots of academic support and a beautiful surrounding area. However, housing, student support and social events could be improved.
The lecturers are very supportive with every issue you have. The options in Plymouth are brilliant for nightlife and general relaxation. The bus routes are very frequent and the sports here is brilliant. The courses are very thorough and help support life after uni. One thing I think could be improved are some of the on campus facilities such as the bar and the wifi/computers as it sometimes hinders study.
I really like Marjon it’s a small campus but there’s so much to it it’s not suffocating there’s lots of opportunities for sport and clubs and fun really good bus routes to make up for it’s out of the city centre location and student support is PHENOMENAL. Student support like DSA and counselling are great and give people what they need. The student union is trying their best but honestly aren’t that relevant to me personally at the moment they haven’t had their time to shine yet
Really friendly environment, everywhere I go on campus I feel welcomed. The sports facilities are amazing and the extra curricular activities are amazing.
I like that Marjon is a small uni, it gives me the opportunity to have that 1 to 1 with my lecturer especially when I’m in crisis. I also love the feel of community at Marjon, because it’s so small I can have a real impact on the community. However, I have a difficulty within student support. I put in an EC for one of my assignments but, it wasn’t accepted until 2 working days after the extended deadline even though I followed it up twice.
Best aspects is how nice all the staff are and nice facilities Worst aspects is the campus is a bit out of the way
Resources are available to students and the library is open 24hrs which is helpful especially if you live on campus
A lovely university, where you are made to feel like a person not just a number.
I absolutely love the fact that the lecturers and staff are really supportive and will do their best to help you with your work. Especially in student well being where if you are suffering with mental health they are always there to help and offer support. The student union also do their best to provide amazing student nights out and events also. Areas for improvement could be to upgrade certain areas of the uni due to how old and run down they are but other than that. I love this uni. Very small, too which makes it less overwhelming as the class sizes are smaller. Perfect for if you have a presentation so you aren’t presenting to so many people. I also love the fact they are in partnership with Plymouth argyle, so if you study sports they have good job opportunities too post study and coaches from there also teach at the uni.
It’s a lovely small campus which means you can have the 1-1 sessions and a more smaller class size. There is always something to do or someone to help you with anything
The campus is lovely and for a university you get everything you expect but the lectures here aren't well trained with disabilities but are friendly.
My experience at University of St Mark & St John (Marjon) has been mixed. The Marjon Sports Centre offers great facilities. The gym is small but well-equipped, although a noticeable amount of equipment is often out of order. The wider sports centre and swimming pool are also good. Most of the main campus feels modern, but some buildings appear cheaply constructed and are already showing signs of damage. Cleanliness across campus is poor — floors are often dirty and rubbish is frequently left on tables. There are many places to study, and the library is excellent. It offers plenty of space, chairs, and desks, and the top floor provides fantastic views, making it a great environment to work in. Staff are generally friendly, and there is a genuine sense of community at Marjon. Many staff take the time to get to know you as a person rather than treating you as just another number. Student support services are caring and well-intentioned but extremely limited. I struggled with my mental health during my university journey, and while the support I received was compassionate, the team can only offer guidance and referrals to specialist services. They are very small, mostly operate by appointment, and have limited drop-in availability. There is no crisis support, no in-house mental health practitioner, and few staff are trained in mental health first aid. The team appears overworked, stressed, and under-resourced. There is support available for students with disabilities, but again it is limited. There are many ideas discussed but little implementation in practice, which is disappointing. Accessibility for people with physical disabilities is poor, and despite student campaigns, there has been little meaningful change during my four years at the university.
The student union and marjon staff are second to none. The bar on the other hand seems to be run by people who haven’t run one before!! False promises about jobs! Open 2 days a week 3 at a push. The SU are trying but nothings being done.. I absolutely love being a Marjon student, I feel proud to wear the kit every week. If I could re do uni in another life time I’d chose marjon every time

It’s great because it’s inclusive and friendly. Village could be slightly improved with maintenance sometimes
I love the interpersonal nature of the university. Sometimes some more interactive components could improve lectures and increase concentration.
