The uni offers so much to students and you get a real feeling that everyone is on your side, helping you to succeedd. The courses that are offered are outstanding and the staff that run them are very helpful. I am on the acting course and it has been an amazing experience with support given throughout every module and fun, exciting and informative. So far it has opened up new career paths and opportunities, that otherwise would be unavailable to actors. I am very proud to be a part of the university and even prouder to belong to 'The Actors Wheel' (the acting course's company title)
Overall , the university has a warm atmosphere with a close knit community that supports each other and strives for better. The courses are varied however the standard is consistant
The facilities are state of the art, specifically the sports centre with its very contemporary fitness suite, swimming pool, sports science lab, sports halls, gymnasium and climbing wall. A large part of the Campus (which is rather small, probably very little bigger than a college campus) has been refurbished in recent years. The rest is starting to become very run down and concrete retro style which isn't particularly ascetically pleasing. The current refurbishment on most of the campus seems rushed and therefore inadequately carried out. The student union is pointless and utterly a waste of space. Theres no use for them unless your on a sports team and want to get completely bladdered all the time, and even then, the events are either non existent or are badly organised with no class at all. Accommodation - if your in an old building, it looks like a piece of rubbish on the outside but have been refurbished well on the interior with adequate room sizes and have been built properly. If your in the new buildings, they look awful on the outside, there badly built with many problems such as lack of wifi, large amounts of mould, bad ventilation and condensation, 2 showers and toilets between 9 people which look like they've had better days, but on the plus side youve got a fairly big room in comparison to others - HAHA. The student village has been far backdated and dosent even require comment. The halls of residence in general are far overpriced compared to other student living within plymouth. Theres also a large problem with hot water and heating in the winter, or the lack there of. If you have any problems with halls, the only viable option available is to move you elsewhere. Either that or excuses. don't bother. BA Outdoor adventure education is brilliant!
Marjon is brilliant. I get on well with my lecturers and they find time to help me outside of my lectures. The social side to uni is always buzzing so it's easy to unwind from the stresses of studying. The SU are always on hand to help with any worries and problems too. Marjon have over 900of their graduates earning jobs in their industries which is a phenomenal ratio. Eye candy isn't anything to brag about but that's not what I came here for.
The university is a nice one, if you're interested in practical sports or teaching (or both) then this is definitely a place to go. Unfortunately I didn't sign up to either of those and didn't really feel like I got what I had signed up for. If you prefer smaller universities with a decent atmosphere then again consider Marjon. All members of staff are generally happy to bend over backwards to help you, which is a really nice thing. The only real problem with the university itself is being three miles from the city centre and although there are decent bus service, it costs to get around. Because the university is mainly interested in teaching and sports, if you don't do a course in those realms then you won't feel like you fit in to Marjon as you'll be in a minority. (Even sports journalism makes you seem like you're hidden away). Because of this, most of the students are 'jock' types and very much the non-academic type. The facilities in the university are great, the sports centre is fantastic and the newly refurbished library and media centre are also great new assets. One not so great asset is the student union. The Sub bar is normally empty and if you're not interested in playing sport, drama, drinking or the Christian Union, there is nothing going on for students. The student union is a big advocate of playing sports and drinking, very little else. The city of Plymouth is a really nice one and a city I would recommend staying in to study.
Marjon is a close knit community which gives it a different feel to most universities. Lecturers know you by name and develop close connections and peers seem much more at ease with one another. The facilities are always growing with a new media suite built only 6 months ago while the sports teams and student ambassador scheme allows students to make a bigger impact.

Amazing to be part of the actors wheel, the course is so unique. You can see that as a company and individuals the is a massive improvement in a matter of months. I KNOW that I will finish this course trained to the highest standard, ready to enter the acting world and be confident within it.
Nice to live in a city that's big enough that it feels busy but not so big that you feel lost all the time
Not part of any clubs so don't know
Money is fair for what you get, and any damage created is seen to very quickly
