I really like it here, I have made many new friends and at sheffield that there is a variety of people to meet because sheffield is such a diverse city and the university has a lot of students form different nationalities. However I think that the accomadation is misleading as to how close everything within the capus is. Sheffield is cold and wet in the winter and the traffic is terrible. I spend a lot of time walking to places to attend lectures etc but i hate the hills. Walking u and down can get very frustrating.
I thinkthe student services are very good. The staff are really happy to help and friendly. Theres a lot on offer to do with volunteering and training. Theres also a really wide range of courses and friends all have lots to talk about even if we are not on the same course. One thing i would like to say is that i wish there was quiet accomadation sites because in first year my student halls were very difficult to live in. I found it very hard to study in at times because of noise and parties etc.
University is such a fun experince and I feel people who don’t go to university and just work all their life are really missing out on a great experience. I advise everyone to do everything the more things you do the better time you will have which will mean the more friends you have meaning youll have more things to do. Its a great circle. The city is very good and i think it is a relatively big city, enough for me to get lost on the first few weeks but not too bad because i know my way around now. I like my course and the lecturers are ok but i think university is very different from sixth form as it is very independent and you wont get punished you will just end up with a crappy grade and when your paying 9000 pounds a year thats not what you or you parents would want you to do. I think university makes me more competitive which is good. The nightlife is great and there are lots and lots of clubs which on a week day are super cheap! I would recommend my university and would give people who are thinking about university of sheffield to ay freshers is the best week, discovery week is also good so come to the open days and see what you think. Good luck and apply to sheffield
Going to university was what ive always been told is expected to do,I was so excited when I got my offers and went to different citys on open days to see which on suited me the most. I chose shefield because its not too far from home and I really didn’t want to be too far. However now im settled this is like my home and i rarely make the trip home. I like sheffield city although it is very hilly and if you dont bring your car your legs will feel it. The students union is good although i only like the food from the shop i hate the food upstairs in the cafe and think its pretty gross. HOwever the nightlife is great! socials are great! life at sheffield university reeally is amazing. I would recommend everyone to make sheffield university a choice to gain a valuable degree,
My experience at university so far I would deffinetly say I am enjoying it. I am not wowed by my course and lectures and think they are just slightly above average. I think I expected more from a highly rated university like sheffield university and I am left feeling alot of the teaching and learning is to be done independantly. I also dont really think the ciy is anything special it is very similar to other surrounding cities. My advice would be to do a year within the industry of your choice. This could possibly improve job prospects at the end of the course. I think the university take into consideration more than just your grades and i dont feel they frown upon people who have been into work that is why i am giving this advice to possible future students.
The overall rating is really good because I am really enjoying myself. The course and lectures are interesting hiwever I think that with the high standard of grade entry requirements I would have expected more challenging work or even more one on on time with my personal tutor. I suppose its good that i evn have a personal tutor. The accomadation is good apart from walking past the bin bit its always smelly. Make sure your flat mates do their fair share. oing clubs and societies they are awesome! I feel really positive about my future and i think sheffield has enhanced that.
I am really enjoying university and that generally is all aspects. There are lots and lots of clubs and societies to get involved in and really sheffield has the best night life. Obviously sometimes the clubs can be quiet especially on a Tuesday but there is a club for everyday of the week and also there is a club to suit everyone. I would recommend people to look at train prices back to home if you are thinking of coming here, as if you start to feel homesick you dont want be stranded because tickets are too expensive. The maths course here is a lot less stressful that that at some other universitys but it is just as useful with just as good of a degree.
Disappointing quality of teaching, however huge amounts of societies, all of which are cheap friendly and welcoming
Sheffield provides ample opportunity to discover something new with its wide range of cultural shops and services. The university itself is very good. The lecturers provide a good overview of their individual subjects. There are some bad lecturers among the mix, but not a significant number. The university's technical services are of a good quality, but can be difficult to and access and use becaue of how the university manages the the desktop. As a result, it's particularly difficult to perform certain programming exercises. For the remaining subjects, the university provides a good level of technical supportt. In addition, they provide support for student's laptops and computers.
It has a great buzz and is all you can ask for in a university experience, though I now realise academia is not my calling I have no regrets from my time in Sheffield, It has a lot to offer you just need to make the jump!
I would say that University of Sheffield is a really nice and good university to study in. If you are looking for a city campus (departments and building being spread around the city) then Sheffield Uni is a good choice. You may have some lecture in this building and the next lecture probably in another building so you do have to walk quite abit sometimes. But overall, it is pretty nice.
It is a very job-oriented university that allow you to be fully prepared before getting into workplace. It also has a very decent Student Union - a huge variety of service and support.
I am really enjoying my university experience and my first year of study in law. The advice however I would give is to think about the city you are going to just as much as the university. Someone to have reminded me that you have to live in the city of your choice for the next three years I may have made a different decision. If you hate the city then you wont enjoy your university experience half as much as you could. Your university city will become your new home and to move city is a great and perfect excuse to get away from parents. However don't go too far because like me you will get home sick eventually.
To all who are contemplating coming to Sheffield university I would highly recommend it. Although university is an expensive experience I see it as investing in your future and if your going to pay extremely high fees then you should not only enjoy your experience but it must be worth while. At Sheffield this will definitely be worth while. I would suggest anyone thinking or considering Sheffield to visit the open days and have a tour of the amazing campus sight. The accommodation for me Is one of the most important and strongest things ever.
I think university of Sheffield is awesome. And if you are considering it you should definitely come! (: The students union is where I send a lot of time studying and socialising, and I think this is an amazing place. There is so many different clubs and societies which I am part of which I love and as a future student who is thinking of going to Sheffield this is something I feel has enhanced my experience dramatically. There will be definitely one for you if not then like myself even more. I now have a new found love for the city. Although the city is hilly and hard to walk on the transports routes are excellent. Sheffield is a great place to live with great people.
I would recommend the university of Sheffield to anyone who is considering university as the next step in their life. I think Sheffield is a great city with lots of different attractions. The university itself has great resources for students. The university also offer lots of helpful services and there are many thing on offer to help, guide and advice students. An example of this would be the careers service which has helped me personally. The students union is great! There are lots of amazing opportunity's and many things to get involved in. From the tea making society to law4nonlaw. So I suggest to get involved in now. Right from the start. And make the most of it.
Although I am really enjoying my university experience I feel that it would be really nice and good if there were more job opportunities available. As I am an international student I have found it very difficult to find part time work and this has effected my confidence when it come to jobs after my course. I am not suggesting that Sheffield is a uncultured city however I feel language barriers are extremely prominent and me and my fellow friends have found it particularly difficult as international students to get a job.
Personally I am enjoying my university experience very much. I feel I have engaged with my course thoroughly and my social life has increased tremendously as I have made many friends. The lectures within my course are very useful and I felt the exams we recently had reflected what we had been taught. The seminars are engaging and fun. If there is any advice I would give to future potential students it would be to always be prepared. Prepare for your seminars and complete all of your courseworks on time. Another piece of advice I would give is engage with societies and cubs that the university of Sheffield has to offer.
If I am honest. The experience of university is a big change from my life experiences before. University life is also very different from what I expected it to be like. One thing I think future students need to be aware of is how independent you are expected to be. You have to be independent with travel, time, money , studies , exams and lots of things. I think once you master the skills in order to be independent you should be successful and enjoy university, however if not then you may require more help and advice which the university of Sheffield does offer. A key skill what I think needs to be learnt is time management.

My first advice is apply. My second is get involved. My third work extremely hard. My fourth party Hard. My fifth join your union. My sixth get involved again. And finally love and enjoy sheffield, it is not the greatest city in the world but it is a nice city with some positives and negatives like everyehere in the world. Apply to sheffield to have a good/ok experience.
