What students say about orthoptics

I really like my research lab and supervisor. They are very insightful, has very good intuition and research ideas. I'm also really grateful for the opportunity to work with leading researchers on very interesting projects exploring how deep learning can improve healthcare management. What I dislike is that very high rent of university-owned student accommodation. It's so counterintuitive and unexpected that private student accommodation in Sheffield is many times cheaper.

What students say about orthoptics

The staff are great! They are always there for support and I never feel like I do not have someone to approach when struggling. Having a personal tutor is so beneficial as well, as you always have them to talk to whether it be about your studies, personal matters or career paths! I also love that it is all one campus so no need to run between building to building making it to classes as they all link in some way. The student wellbeing service is also a great support system in place, the counselling service is extremely helpful and an amazing thing to have built into the university.

What students say about orthoptics

I really like the University of Liverpool. It's a nice environment with friendly and helpful staff and student support and plenty of opportunities if you seek them out. I would argue that student life isn't very commuter friendly though. It's quite a walk from the train station, no lockers and societies often run late into the evening.

Studying orthoptics

An orthoptic degree is the first step on the path to becoming an eye and visual specialist. Students focus on diagnosing and treating visual disorders, eye movement and alignment, and general optical health. Orthoptists help people to live better and more comfortable lives using their medical expertise and skills in patient care. Commonly covered topics include the anatomy of the eye, binocular vision, lenses and instrumentation, paediatric ophthalmology, and clinical assessment. This can lead to a variety of careers in healthcare, such as orthoptist, paediatric eye specialist, or vision therapist. Postgraduate study options offer further specialisation in areas like neuro-optometry or low vision rehabilitation.
