It’s such an amazing facility with great student support all round. The teachers are truly invested in making your education to have a purpose
Great location- right by the main city transport links. Amazing support staff- so friendly and helpful.
Amazing course leaders who support students. A lot of facilities. I wish the computing building and lecture halls were as nice as other courses!
Honestly Sheffield hallam is amazing. The staff the support the location just everything is amazing and I would choose Sheffield hallam over and over again. Ive had my struggles at uni. Having to repeat years but I have always had the best support from the course staff and the student support services. I wouldn't change anything even if I could.
The best aspect is the support the university gives me. Funding, student support and more. The worst is the course I am currently at, we are super short staffed and I’m afraid I may not get the help required
Feel like more one to one support could be designed more different
As I started in September, after taking a gap year to pursue some personal studies in Arabic, I initially had the feeling I would be out of place and quite nervous upon starting at Hallam, however it was the complete opposite. The people at SHU are extremely supporting and kind, helping me with my studies providing great support and advice as I proceed. The facilities for my course are amazing as I am mainly in the Redmires building, they have everything you will ever need and it is all up to date and modern. The area where the university is based is quite difficult in terms of parking as it is city centre however that it understandable. Overall, great people and a great University
Location and Community Support
Best aspects of my Uni experience is that I get the opportunity to live away from home and experience adult life first hand. It offers me good insight into what the future holds. Howere, this is the best and worst, because it can get stressful and lonely at points. But support is always the best resource.
the uni is very close to the train station, and the city centre. the campus is always clean and tidy. classrooms and lecture theatres are great! my only issue is the lack of plug sockets especially in the classrooms in langset!
It’s very modern, has may study spaces available. Staff are great to talk to about worries etc. They settle you in well for first year. A bit daunting to join societies.
The facilities are great, the ones I've seen and heard of. The teachers provide good support and guidance. What could be improved is the way lectures are held. To make it more useful. At the moment it does not feel worth the travel to the session as you feel like you can do better on your own rather than spending money to make it there just for the lecturer to rush through lecture slides
The entire staff is responsive and always ready to help, they tailor their learning methods to what we as students find the most effective and rewarding. There are study spaces though not many which could be improved as many people prefer to work in a university building thats not necessarily their lecture hall but still is a motivating space. The student union also does not have a lot of character compared to other universities, there are limited study spaces and a handful of cafes but not much more which doesnt bring people together or become a space to relax or eat or find school supplies such as pens or notebooks thats students may need last minute.
Best- socialising with friends, feeling welcome in all University sessions including praise from lecturers and peers. Worst- sometimes timetable can be difficult as a student who commutes it can be strenuous when coming in just for a one hour lecture.
The support you receive here whilst doing your studies was one of the main reasons i decided to choose Sheffield Hallam and i can say it has exceeded my expectations. I would say that on campus the toilets can be very dirty. They don’t ever feel clean especially in Charles Street Building.
Sheffield Hallam University offers a welcoming and supportive environment with a strong focus on applied learning. The teaching staff are approachable, knowledgeable, and committed to helping students develop both academically and professionally. The university’s facilities, including modern study spaces, libraries, and specialist resources, create a positive setting for independent and collaborative work. Sheffield Hallam is also well connected to local communities and employers, providing valuable opportunities for placements, volunteering, and real-world experience. The Students’ Union is active and inclusive, offering a wide range of societies and support services that help students settle in and feel part of the community. The city of Sheffield itself is friendly, affordable, and vibrant, with plenty of green spaces and cultural activities. Overall, Sheffield Hallam provides a balanced blend of academic support, practical experience, and an enjoyable student life, making it a strong choice for many learners. I think the one thing that could be improved in my courses attendance taking. I would prefer if all my lectures took attendance so I could keep track of it myself.
More inclusion or events at the union would be nice to get to know a wider range of people but in general it's a great university
