So many activities for students that helps make university less school focused. The buildings are a bit far from each others which sometimes makes it harder to arrive on time
The facilities, support, and student union at the university are really great. The staff are helpful, and the resources available are fantastic for both academic and personal development. One area for improvement isn’t exactly something that can be improved, but the distance between buildings can be quite far, especially with the hilly terrain. It would be better if there were better connections or transport options for easier access to different parts of campus. Overall, it’s a great place to study!
I went on a night out, got too drunk and the support from the uni is actually amazing and you feel so safe, genuinely so much gratitude and props to the staff. The uni is so lovely for the building and scenery. People are friendly. Sheffield is cheap. At first I wasn’t sure if I was in the right place but this has grown on me a lot. Uni accomodation maintenance is very responsive and helpful too
It is a supportive environment with friendly individuals and loads of opportunities. It is also affordable
I like the course a lot and the student union is very nice
The student union is always lovely and is always running free things to do also with the uni club its always fun! The university is beautiful with lots of nice places to go and study and the course im on is so fun. There's lots of green spaces around too for nice walks and being close to the city means there's always something to do. Some thing it could improve on is clearly giving out information and at the moment there is quite a bit of work going on with some of the buildings that make it look a little ugly. However overall I really love sheffield and don't regret my decision to study here at all.
The best are societies, the worst is the cost of living
I never feel that anything is missing or could be better
Sheffield is a brilliant community city, with pocket neighbourhoods and a familiar feel - excellent location by the peaks and with links to major cities, it’s a great city to start with away from home.
Lovely and welcoming people
I have loved being in Sheffield! The atmosphere is unlike anything!
A lot of the older buildings on campus are pretty ugly as it goes but most of the building interiors are nice. Student support is quite good when you can get in contact but is often difficult to navigate.
best - how active the SU is, though this is still not as good as it could be. General student support services are incredible. The academic staff that I have come into contact with are amazing and clearly care so much about their students - a complete contrast to university management who clearly could not care less about students, their welfare and their educational experience worst - university cutbacks - all of the cuts are financially unnecessary and are hollowing out the university, making students' experience worse and removing so many of the courses, staff and opportunities that make the university world renowned. Accessibility is also vastly varied between departments, and as a disabled politics student I haven't felt very supported by the departments processes etc despite the incredible academics who go above and beyond to ensure I am getting the most out of my education
Course leads are very approachable and act on previous years' feedback. Some lecturer are better than others but overall the leads for each block are very good. Very broad range of societies and sports to get involved with.
Affordable, fun, student feel, clean, supportive, lots of opportunities need more investment in sport
The libraries are great to study at. The students union is lovely and welcoming. The politics facilities are really fantastic here. Worst aspects - the strikes - mainly because the staff don’t deserve to be made redundant and they should be striking. Unfortunately it has impacted my course quite a lot.
Some of the buildings are a bit rundown and cold. Lecturers are generally extremely friendly and approachable and encourage you to seek support from them.
Has great facilities, uni owned city accommodation is mid but doesn't affect most people.

I really like my research lab and supervisor. They are very insightful, has very good intuition and research ideas. I'm also really grateful for the opportunity to work with leading researchers on very interesting projects exploring how deep learning can improve healthcare management. What I dislike is that very high rent of university-owned student accommodation. It's so counterintuitive and unexpected that private student accommodation in Sheffield is many times cheaper.
The research I'm working on is frontier, and I'm glad my supervisor and lab are forward thinking and push me to keep up with fast-paced research landscape. Every few weeks a new landmark paper on a new deep learning technique is proposed, so I have to move fast. However, I feel my supervisor and labmates are sort of poor communicators when it comes to explicitly outlining concrete plans we can stick to rather than update and change plans so swiftly.
The building I'm living in is dilapidated with a vulnerable heating system. Furthermore, it's located extremely far from the university main campus. I wish they could lower the rent.
