Sheffield is a lovely place and everything to do with the university is great.
Best - the place Worst- uni not treating their humanities teachers well enough
The best part of it is definitely the community, the friends you make and the welcoming staff it all feels like a big family.
The SU itself is great, if a bit hectic between 11am-3pm
Its a great university with good teaching and facilities. There are always events on at the SU! Plus its sooo close to the beautiful peak district.
The course has been awful, but I still love the city
Everything is AMAZING!
Sheffield in general is such a homely and friendly city which already makes the university experience amazing. However, these factors are supported by the incredible student union which is consistently offering a rage of activities, contests, events and more to ensure everyone feels involved and welcome. The standard of teaching is so high, each member of staff putting maximum effort in to support us in our studies and ensure we are coping okay with the change to independent living. I couldn't say anything bad about the University; coming here was the best decision I have made!
Improvement by having the degree accredited or let people know before they join!
The people of Sheffield are one of its best aspects.
Great places to study but always very busy. Not enough evening food places on campus.
It’s a good uni with good education
Worst: For engineering it's very intense course, getting lecturers to reply to emails, not very good mental health support. Best: the town, the location, the people, the cost of living is cheaper than most other places, very active SU, always something to do
best- meeting some great friends worst- looking for housing
I love the range of societies at the university that provide spaces to talk to like minded people, the location of the campus is also great as it is so close to the local parks. My favourite place to study is the information comms as it is open 24/7 :)
Some of the lowest cost of living in the country, best students union ever and exciting opportunities all around.
Best: the loaded tater tots Worst: the hills
Great study spaces everywhere, always somewhere to sit
Great uni

I have always felt a great sense of belonging and being part of a student community. The nightlife has always been excellent, especially in my first year. The facilities are good and there is so much student support. There is always so much going on every week.
I have always had a lot of contact hours. My modules have been extremely varied, and I have especially enjoyed my final year modules. The staff are always engaging and approachable and extremely knowledgeable. It's a shame that they are making such changes to the Languages department after I graduate, knowing that students won't be offered the same great options that I had.
I love Sheffield. It's a smaller city, which means it's often very walkable, too. It's a multicultural city, full of students and families from all cultures, and many international students, too. It's full of life - so many green spaces, and amazing food and drinks in restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs - and nearly all at great prices. This applies to living costs too; student living is much cheaper in the North than in the South where I'm from. There are so many different parts to explore, each with their own distinct character, and I've loved every area I've lived in. There is so much to do, whether that's organised by the uni/SU, local events, city-wide events, nightlife, weekend activities like walks in the Peaks... The only problem with Sheffield is that you won't want to leave! :)
Halls is the best way to start your first year. Endcliffe is the most popular, but I'm so glad I stayed in Ranmoor. It's a little more small and quiet, but still full of life. I have made my friends for life from the apartment we shared in first year. The management sort issues out really quickly, and the flat is cleaned and maintained weekly. My room was really spacious, but the wetroom bathroom is a bit dingy - but I can't complain about an en-suite too much. I always felt really safe in Ranmoor, and the location is lovely; far from campus, but it's a great area. The facilities are great too, all rooms and flats come equipped with good wifi, big desks and shelves, a decent amount of bedroom storage, and the kitchen is really big with double appliances (two hobs, two sinks, etc.)
