It took me some time to adapt to university life so my experience of first year was not ideal. However when I started getting more involved in second year, I began to enjoy the experience more. My mental health has suffered, existing problems were amplified by the stresses of uni. This led to my grades suffering at points but sought support which helped get me back on track. I'm glad I chose this university but regret the course I chose as whilst it suited my interests in name, I was unaware how plant based it would be. I wish I had picked a different degree that would have focused more on human biological research as I do not feel adequately qualified to pursue a career in cancer research now

I think the university has generally good facilities. Plenty of study space and lecture halls

Tutors can be helpful, for example my project supervisor was very supportive. Some lecturers do not give good feedback on work however. It depends who it is and you learn what not to expect from whom. Personal support offered by the uni could be better. Disability offer good support but the uni counselling proved very inadequate for my needs and has a 2 month wait for appointments at times.

I think LUU has excellent facilities with two bars and lots of places to eat and sit.

Yes. Most accommodation is surrounded by lots of amenities like pubs and takeaways, and is between 15-30 mins walk from the uni, and walking distance from the city centre

There are so many options for societies, I fully recommend getting involved as that has been the basis of my social life. There's something for everyone and I hear it's relatively easy to set up a new society

There has been a good range of optional modules available to genetics students that have been very interesting. However what I dislike about this course is how it fits in with the rest of the school of biology. It seems if you don't care for plant biology or evolution you should not choose this degree. The majority of lecturers study plant biology and there were very few final year projects catering for students interested in human biology who want to gain careers in research. If your interest is research into genetic disorders you may wish to pursue a different course in the faculty of biological sciences.

My faculty offers its own careers service which has proven excellent, and there were a wide range of industrial year options available. However my course in particular failed to give me the laboratory skills that would help me get a job in research, unlike what I have heard about degrees in the school of biomedical sciences who from discussions with my peers have far better prospects due to the lab skills obtained

The private accommodation is mostly a good distance from university and there is lots on in the area. Houses tend to have decent prices but the landlords can be quite crappy.
