Great campus with an array of facilities offered as well as extremely accommodating staff. The amount of cafes and food places on campus is fab as well as the premier next door if you’re looking for something on a budget. It’s very accessible as well as the uni has a ton of lifts. The uni has a very modern feel and even the library is very up to date with IT help desk as well as self automated book return machines. They’re are lots of tutorials available for further support if need be for the academic side of things as well.

A mix of in class and online lectures and workshops, focused around honing core skills as a writer. Initially, the pace of learning may seem a bit slow but it picks up over time. Lectures are always willing to book tutorials for one to one feedback, an opportunity to share and recieve valuable constructive criticism. As both a creative and academic subject, there is a blend of teaching and writing styles required and lectures provide valuable references for this.

Great location near all the big shops like Tesco, lidl and Asda however there has been reoccurring issues regarding the bins outside (student roost not paying the bin people and thus the bins stacking up for several days extra). Would describe it as a budget Hilton, very nice but would be better if any room complaints that were reported actually were fixed- for example it’s been months since I reported half my bathroom lights stopped working- still no one’s turned up to change them. The rooms are generally very nice however but there are many rooms that have heaters that don’t work. Also they recently announced hoovers will no longer be provided by reception which is a mild inconvenience (as the floors can be mopped anyway). The facilities are nice, the cinema room, a gym (a bit on the small side but it works) and the main lounge area for table tennis and table football. Overall, it has some issues but it’s probably the second best out of the three main student accommodations offered. Oh also some floors have the occasional silverfish problem but all you need to do is be tidy to avoid that. For the kitchen, there’s a timer fuse for the hob meaning it turns off every 15-20 mins or so but I guess that’s a safety feature to avoid forgetful accidents. Also Home Park uses circuit laundry which is pretty pricey but I think it’s the same for other accommodation as well. In the summer, it’s very hot so I’d recommend bringing a fan unless you go to the cinema room often as it’s the only place with air conditioning.

Seeing as I all I need to do my work is a laptop, I've found the facilities to be great. There are laptops to use in the library for anyone who needs them and IT support on-hand too. Also, from speaking to flatmates I've found that the facilities seem to be up to standard for the other courses too. The location is good, I like being next to BU campus as we can use both. Furthermore, being away from town helps with the work/life balance; the bus journey is only 20 minutes and can be a nice time to reflect on the day. Student support has been incredible, my tutors clearly care and you can easily have a laugh with them too. Well being are fantastic, such lovely people who often follow up with you and consistently give such helpful resources. I did find that we experienced slightly less support from someone on the team when dealing with a flatmate issue, I definitely felt as though some sort of bias was in play but it is a sensitive and often difficult topic anyway. Campus is lovely and colourful, it's small but well looked after and has so many nice hangout spots. As I said previously BU campus is right next door and slightly bigger which adds to the variety. There's also always something going on which is exciting and refreshing! Student life has been great, I'm staying in halls in Bournemouth town and have enjoyed being there minus a few hiccups with previously mentioned flatmate issues and a few broken things here and there - that's all part of student life though, I suppose! I haven't had too much experience with the students union but from the sounds of things they're a committed bunch who seem to really care and listen to students! My only personal issue was with the slight lack of support from a member of the team as I mentioned, sadly I think it's just how things run sometimes when an incident involves multiple people but it would've been appreciated to have been less judged off the bat. Overall, this is the best decision I could've made when choosing a university :)

Being a first year, it's a slow introduction. I've found that this overall has been helpful to slowly lower us into a vast and forever-changing industry and help us find our feet. I've had the time to develop as a person and writer in and out of uni which has been great; also had enough time to make some amazing friends! However, I've found it too be very basic for at least the first term; I do have a lot of energy and am eager to go into the industry and I would argue that's why I may be feeling quite restless. The work placements and general information on the industry don't tend to be handed out until second year, as to ensure we are good representations of the university and that we are fully prepared - which I do appreciate! The content is interesting and engaging, workshops help to liven things up too with a lot of practical elements to the course. The tutors are there all the time, don't be afraid to fill their inbox with questions! All lectures/workshops are online except or most guest speakers, which is actually better as we get so many more professionals giving us advice now!

I love my room here, I truly feel as though I've made it my own and I've made some fantastic friends. The facilities are lovely (a gym, cinema room and plenty of work and hangout spaces). Location is good, close to town and the beach but as it's predominantly a student area it can be a bit loud and dodgy at nights - just be sensible! The loud nights, dirty dishes and sometimes gross state of the kitchen was expected. However, when I arrived I noticed egg was smeared all over my walls (I know it was egg as a friend had stayed in my room the year before - small world!). I found that the flat generally was not cleaned at all and the shower was so clogged I had to unclog it myself. This is fine, I was expecting to have to clean it when I arrived. Although, the fact it seemed untouched since the last tenant was a bit troubling. Furthermore, we have an infestation of silverfish which the building refused to do anything about as they are 'not pests'. THEY ARE! It's something we have taken into our own hands with cleaning and using certain products and the issues has, mostly, subsided. Furthermore, a little tip if you're staying here - learn some DIY. The team who handle complaints and mending any damages are far too small for the building, it'll take months (or multiple complaints) to get things fixed. I had an odd experience in that we had a flatmate who made us feel very unsafe, this happens but not frequently so don't be scared! Although, I found the building to be very unsupportive of this. Understanding that they can't do much, they did not even note the report we made about our safety and the wellbeing of our flatmate which was deeply troubling. They further chose to ignore a further complaint made against them by someone else after there had been a verbal altercation. These things have seemingly settled now but it would have been nice to have felt more supported, after all this is our first experience away from home. Finally, I once had the buildings manager accuse me of keeping substances in my room which was deeply upsetting after having my room searched and being yelled at. I didn't have these substances in my room and after going down to reception in tears because I was informed it would be reported to the uni (despite them having found anything), I was told it in fact would NOT be reported and they just wanted me to 'realise the severity of if I had been caught with substances'. As someone who is very anxious, I felt very very uncomfortable in my own flat for a few weeks; constantly feeling like I was being watched or judged. On a good note, teh uni works very closely with the accommodation and so any complaints about the accommodation (or anything to do with it) can also be sent to the uni and they are far more helpful.
