For PhD entry, applicants will usually be required to hold a Master’s qualification. For an MPhil, applicants will normally need a good undergraduate degree or equivalent. It may be possible to start an MPhil and then transfer to a PhD subject to a completion of a probation period. Relevant work experience can also be used, and prospective students will need to be able to demonstrate a good standard of English.

A busy and bustling campus, which recently received a multi-million investment and offers a variety of excellent learning and specialist subject specific facilities, including laboratories, research kitchens and more. The Plas Gwyn residential campus is located nearby.
Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed campus is home to the Cardiff School of Education & Social Policy and the Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences (Sport Programmes) with subject specific labs and facilities, on-site accommodation and a new purpose-built Campus Centre. The campus also acts as the head office for the Students' and Athletics Union.
Both campuses offer excellent sporting facilities, on-site shop, coffee bars and refectory.

There is a range of different support services available for Cardiff Met students including free, impartial, non-judgemental and confidential counselling and advice on money, wellbeing, disability and dyslexia.
The Chaplaincy Service honours those of all faiths and is a welcoming, confidential and safe environment available to all staff and students.
A specialist out of hours team is available for any problems which take place outside of the normal working hours. There’s lots of advice and support listed on the Cardiff Met website, for help both inside and outside of the uni.

VISIT WEBSITECardiff Met prides itself on having a strong reputation in applied research, and active engagement with business and industry and offers prospective postgraduate students first-class taught courses and unique research opportunities across its five academic schools.
Cardiff Met’s Students’ Union (SU) is run by two executive officers (President and Vice President) and has a board of trustees, along with representatives from each school.
Cardiff Met SU helps both postgraduate and undergraduate students enjoy activities including sports, societies, workshops, volunteering and more and provides support with access to further help and advice to make the student experience as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible.
Students at Cardiff Met have over 50 societies to choose from. A range of interests and hobbies are currently covered by these multiple societies, including sports, arts and crafts, faith and academic studies. There’s no limit on the number of societies that can be joined.
The university also offers a wide variety of sporting clubs, many of which compete highly in European, national and local league competitions. This includes the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Welsh Premier Leagues, WBBL, and the WRU Championship.
Students are also encouraged to set up their own societies. Cardiff Met offers up to GBP 100, as well as advice and use of facilities, to students who want to create a new society.
With a thriving student population, Cardiff has been consistently mentioned as one of the best places to live in the UK, and benefits from being the capital city of Wales.
The Cardiff Met campuses are only a couple of miles away from the city centre and are well served by local buses.
It is a compact city, meaning that you can get around quickly and easily, with most of the sources of entertainment being located within a short walk of each other. As well as the bustling city, there are also beaches, mountains and parks all within a short drive, bus or train ride. Music and sports lovers are well served by a range of stadiums and venues, including the Principality Stadium which is home to international rugby and regularly hosts world-famous musicians. There’s a huge choice of restaurants and bars, ranging from well-known chains to independent eateries.
In the latest Graduate Outcomes Survey, 96 per cent of Cardiff Met postgraduates had secured employment or entered further study within six months of graduation.
Throughout their studies, postgraduates have access to Cardiff Met’s Career Service. Its information, advice and guidance can be given in-person and online. Students can receive career planning, advice and guidance up to three years after graduation too.
Cardiff Metropolitan University has created a range of bursary and scholarship schemes to assist with the cost of studying at university. These vary depending on Home/International status and specific course of study, and applicants can check the university website for full details.
There is also a 25 per cent reduction in postgraduate taught fees for Home, EU and International students who have completed their undergraduate degree with Cardiff Met. Terms and conditions apply, and full information is available on the university website.

There are also options to study a PGCE in Primary or Secondary education.
Cardiff Met has an established reputation for excellence in applied research. Supported by academic experts and advanced scholarships, its research is directly applied into industry and community.
Cardiff Met offers different routes into postgraduate research study, with full and part time options available. Students can earn an MPhil or a PhD. The MPhil is awarded after completion of a thesis of up to 60,000 words, while the PhD is for a thesis of up to 100,000 words or equivalent.
Students can also choose to study for a Professional Doctorate. These wide range of courses combine taught methods with research interests from across the university. During their studies, postgraduate doctorate students create a thesis and a professional development portfolio.
The university offers Global Academies that bring together research expertise to develop inter-disciplinary, international and impactful approaches to some of the most entrenched challenges affecting society. Through strengths in education, research and innovation, the university aims to help improve the world through collaborative and compassionate work.
There are two courses which are offered as distance learning from Cardiff Met.
Dental Technology is available as an MSc, postgraduate diploma or certificate via distance learning. There is no requirement to attend the university in person for this degree, but there are weekly online meetings and students are expected to carry out at least six hours practical work per week in their laboratory or workplace throughout the academic year.
Food Technology for Industry is also available via distance learning as an MSc or postgraduate diploma or certificate. It is delivered by electronic means only, and students can work through the modules at their own pace - so long as all of them are completed by July.
