Great area, great facilities, access to libraries everywhere – amazing! Student support services are amazing as well from the union.
Love the amount of societies I’m a part of a netball society, and Wednesday matches and yolo nights are a highlight. A negative is sometimes too many emails, which can make it confusing.
Best aspects is the student union, weekly yolo and socials with many different sports teams that play in img leagues and BUCS. I also like the many study facilities that th university provides, I would not say there is anything particularly bad about the university or the campus or facilities and support provided.
The uni has lots of study spaces and as well as cafes and spots to chill or study with friends. Staff are very friendly and passionate about their subject particularly in the School of Modern Languages.
Cardiff is a wonderful city. The university itself has impressive infrastructure. There's good support, however the waiting times can be long and I've had some peers tell me it wasn't delivered as well for them.
Abacws building is very modern and the bathrooms tend to be clean compared to other buildings. it could be improved by adding more events happening often as well as more opportunities being offered to students.
The lecturers are great!! A few more seats for lunch would be great. Overall 10/10
I love all of the different societies, and the facilities that the university is able to provide for them. For example with dance there are many rehearsal studios, and an events space that we were able to host a competition in this weekend. The different buildings are all within 30 minutes walk of eachother, and the majority of accomodation is a similar distance. This makes the university very walkable, but also makes it feel like we are independant and living in a city. The student housing neighbourhood called Cathays has really affordable houses, and a wide range of sizes that made finding a student house quite simple compared to people I know at other universities.
The engineering building can be a bit far, but it's literally in town, so I guess it makes up for it.
Great integration within the city but many buildings are horrible to look at from the outside even if the facilities within are of a decent standard. To improve the University needs to prioritise the student experience by enhancing the facilities available as within at least Computer Science they are good, but I know they are not for many other courses.
Really good uni buildings and student union; staff are always really helpful.
One of the best aspects of my university experience at Cardiff University has been the overall sense of community. The university has a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, and it’s easy to feel part of something bigger than just your course. The Students’ Union plays a big role in this, offering a wide range of societies, sports clubs and events that make it easy to meet new people and try new things. This has really helped me build friendships and develop confidence outside of my academic work. Academically, I’ve appreciated the expertise and enthusiasm of many of the lecturers. When teaching is engaging and well-structured, it makes a huge difference to motivation and understanding. I’ve also found that most staff are approachable and willing to offer support during office hours or via email. The library and study spaces are another strong point – they are modern, well-equipped and provide a good environment for both independent and group study. Cardiff as a city also adds to the experience. It’s compact, relatively affordable compared to other UK cities, and everything is within walking distance, which makes student life more convenient and enjoyable. However, there are also areas that could be improved. At times, communication can feel inconsistent, particularly around assessment details, deadlines or timetable changes. Clearer and more centralised communication across modules would reduce confusion and unnecessary stress. Small improvements in organisation can have a big impact on the overall student experience. Another challenge has been access to facilities during busy periods. Study spaces in the library can become very crowded during exam season, making it difficult to find quiet areas to work. Extending opening hours further during peak times or increasing available quiet study areas would help support students during high-pressure periods. Overall, my experience at Cardiff University has been positive, with strong teaching, a vibrant student community and a great city to live in. With improved communication and better management of study spaces during busy times, the experience could be even better.
Great libraries for study, also the SU and CSL are great for getting work done or socialising.
My university provides a supportive and enriching environment that encourages both academic and personal growth. It offers high-quality teaching from knowledgeable and approachable lecturers who are genuinely invested in students’ success. The range of courses and research opportunities allows students to explore their interests in depth while developing valuable skills for their future careers. In addition, the university promotes a strong sense of community through societies, events, and wellbeing support services, helping students feel included and supported throughout their studies. With excellent facilities, modern learning resources, and a welcoming atmosphere, the university creates a positive and motivating place to learn and grow.
Lack of student support especially being in the heath, we dont have half the things available on the main campus.
I love the city; everyone is so friendly.
Amazing student union, loads of event and things to do. I like the structure of me course, however are think there is a few problems with organisation both within my school and the wider university. In terms of student support I haven’t needed to reach out much myself so I can’t comment and how good it is.
Students Union is the hub of all uni life and features so many events, both nightlife and society shows, as well as external concerts in its multiple events. So many societies are available to join and access to study spaces and learning resources is extensive and thorough. Perhaps having more chill spaces spread across the uni campuses would be beneficial, especially for example in the Queen’s buildings.
Cardiff University is a great place to study due to its accessible and highly developed student’s union featuring a pub, club, study spaces and shops. There is always something going on here to get involved in which means there is never a boring day. Cardiff university improves and offers employment opportunities. In completing the Cardiff Award I feel lots less anxious in entering the job market. I also improved my job opportunities by getting involved in Cardiff’s Classroom Project, where I volunteered in a Primary School for six weeks. Additionally, Cardiff offer employment. I worked as a student ambassador for open days which meant I could earn some extra money and made new friends. Afterwards, I had the exciting opportunity of completing a paid internship with the university in the summer, which has helped massively in apply for grad jobs. It is easy to make friends here because of all the societies and events/ opportunities for making friends. Additionally, there are lots of events to attend which enrich your social experiences, such as varsity, fight night, the races and student club nights. One thing that could be improved is the resources. For my course, sometimes the books are not available in the online library and so I will have to buy them myself. This can become really expensive. It would be a lot nicer if the university supplied us with books, or at least supplied enough in the ASSL. Another thing is that deadlines for assignments all are at the same time, give or take maybe one day. This can get extremely stressful, especially since my course likes assignments which are 100% of my module. When I have three 100% assignments due, this means I have 10,000 words all due on one day, which has happened before. It might be quite nice to incorporate a celebratory event at the end of the year as a way for students to say goodbye to one another and something that they can look forward to and push them to do well in the last part of their studies. A trip to Alton Towers or Thorpe Park could be fun, or simply a city trip.

I love studying at Cardiff - it's a great city with loads to do, amazing people, vibrant and lovely, and it has a great selection of courses at the university. I really enjoy my course and studies, and there are a number of extracurriculars and events going on all the time. The staff and lecturers are really great, and I meet regularly with them to go through assessment feedback, module content, and 1-on-1s. Most of the buildings are really aesthetically pleasing and also practical, although some are better than others. The SU is great - I think YOLO and The Taf really set Cardiff apart from other universities. There are always fun events happening, and the prices are great. However, I've dropped a star this year due to a lack of student support. Last semester, I experienced an incident that I reported to the university in the hope of support and assistance, and I was met with silence, which was extremely disappointing. Timetabling this year was also really annoying. Although I knew this before arriving, the JOMEC building is so frustratingly out of the way. Being a Joint Honours student, JOMEC is an absolute nightmare in terms of travel, timetabling and work.
I really enjoy the content and my course overall; however, especially in the first year, a lot of the journalism content felt very common-sensical. The contact hours aren't insane, which is nice, especially for how out of the way JOMEC is. However, that means little to no contact with tutors/lecturers, unless you go out of your way to organise a meeting. All internships and placements I've sourced, found, applied for, and earned myself. There is no internship or application support here at the university. They don't even inform you of open internships or anything I like that, which I've heard they do in other departments.
Honestly, Talybont South was fine. Although I didn't 'click' with my flatmates, we were all good acquaintances, and no one was a problem. The facilities were fine, the location is obviously far (especially from JOMEC), but I knew that when I applied for Taly. South is very sociable, which is nice. The on-site team are great if you get locked out. We didn't have any mould or silverfish, but I did hear that from some friends. The reason I ranked low for value for money was simply the size and design of the rooms in comparison to other accommodations and universities. It's just way too small, and very old-fashioned, and kind of ugly (creamy/yellow compared to a fresh white/grey). The fridges we had in the kitchen were also too small for a flat of 8 people.
