Student uni is tiny! Uni ofs bigger and better
The best part of my experience has been how much I have grown in confidence and independence. When I first started, I focused mainly on understanding content and passing assessments. Over time, particularly through demanding modules and project work, I began to think more critically and take ownership of my learning. I have appreciated the applied nature of the courses — being able to move from theory into practical modelling, research design, or structured analysis has made everything feel purposeful rather than abstract. There is something very satisfying about seeing concepts come to life in coursework, presentations, or technical projects. I have also valued the environment. The diversity of students has broadened my perspective, and working in groups has pushed me outside my comfort zone. Some of my most meaningful learning has come from collaborative discussions rather than lectures alone. There have been moments where a difficult topic suddenly made sense because of a conversation with a peer or a lecturer taking the time to explain something differently. That said, it has not always been easy. The workload can be intense, especially when several deadlines fall within the same week. There have been periods where I felt stretched, balancing multiple demanding modules at once. At times, navigating administrative systems has also been frustrating, particularly when clarity or quick responses were needed. However, looking back, even the challenging aspects have contributed to my development. The pressure has strengthened my time management, resilience, and self-discipline. I have learnt how to handle setbacks, refine my work, and aim for higher standards. Overall, my experience at Sheffield Hallam has been demanding, but it has pushed me to grow in ways I would not change.
The labs on level 8 are really really good facilities lots of opportunities to improve in lab skills, the worst aspects are the sports halls at city and colligiate for korfball training they just aren’t big enough
Hard to say, everything mentioned is at a really good standard
There are lots of new spaces within the business buildings on city campus to relax and study quietly or within social groups between lectures and seminars. All staff are amazing at what they do including personal and health support all the way through to academic and future career development. There's nothing that could be done to improve this process.
Everything is great except for teaching, which can be improvised.
Hallam is the most welcoming encouraging place for any student, there’s so much support and time for any help you might need from all the staff and student support systems at the uni and in the almost four years I’ve been here I can say I’ve only met lovely passionate people! Feel very lucky to be in as inspiring an environment as this university and all the opportunities that’ve come from that, which is why after graduation I want to stay in Sheffield where I’ve found this community and build a career here and that’s all thanks to the support from the university! Couldn’t be happier with my university experience at Hallam and I’d recommend it to anyone!
1. Great staff 2. Ideal location 3. great student support 4. so many societies to choose from
Love Sheffield as a city, couldn't recommend it enough. Uni is pretty good, though I'm very concerned about the University's economic situation and the redundancies. The staff are all great, so it is really unfortunate that their jobs are seemingly not secure. Staffing/funding issues are probably the main issue I have regarding my experience at Hallam.
University in general along with all its amenities are very high standard and beneficial. However, find sources of income to support living whilst at University are quite tough and hard to come by.
Great support and easy to travel too
