The campus is very creative both in design and atmosphere, and it’s a great place to be an arts student and really explore your creativity. There is art everywhere as you’re walking around which makes you feel part of a creative community. The library is a great place to study, and it’s a small uni so it’s easier to learn your way around campus. There are also other facilities like 3D printers and laser cutters in the innovation studio. It’s really easy to reach out to people on other courses to collaborate on a project. The student union runs welcome events in fresher’s week and throughout the term, although sometimes these could be better organised as it makes the job more difficult for student ambassadors.

Creative writing is a really fun course to study at AUB. It’s really flexible so you can explore all forms of writing and find what suits you best. The course leader is such a lovely person and it’s always wonderful to talk to him. The timetable for first year is very reasonable, with a mixture of lectures/seminars and workshops, and you can book one-to-one tutorials if you need any further support.

Bournemouth has lots to offer, including the long stretch of beach all the way from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier. The gardens running through the centre of town to the beach are probably the highlight. There are many interesting cafes and a very nice bakery in the square, across from the cinema. There is also a public library in addition to the uni one. There are several nightclubs and many supermarkets within easy reach of the town centre. Buses are frequent, some more than others, and tend to be easy to navigate using the UniBus or MoreBus app. Like all cities, it’s always worth advising caution when walking the streets at night.

What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Home Park is the most expensive of the three first year accommodation blocks owned by AUB, but comes with a luxurious social space, gym, bookable work room and cinema room. All AUB residences offer a minimum of ensuite rooms with a shared kitchen, so you never have to worry about sharing a bathroom. The rooms themselves are a decent size, with plenty of storage space and a pinboard for posters. Ensuite rooms come with a bathroom the width of the small double bed, which is a reasonable size. However, it is pot luck who you end up sharing a flat with, so there’s really no way to guarantee you’ll have flatmates you get on with, unless you’re lucky enough to be able to afford a studio!
