Having spent 9 weeks at Harper Adams i know I've made the correct choice of university. Being a first year agriculture with animal science student I've found the staff to be the most welcoming and helpful and the facilities to be top notch. My overall experience of uni has be bettered by the many teams and societies available at the university and the activities through said clubs. I have great hope for my future because of Harper and how it has in such a short period of time shown me the direction in which i want my career to proceed after university. Via many careers and placement fairs the university advertise their students to companies and give us a chance to network with global companies. I love it and would highly recommend Harper Adams to any student interested in agriculture or related sectors.

The labs and IT facilities are top notch full of new tech and gadgets that are used frequently for classes.

With a constant flow of information about workshops and talks about subjects that pupils struggle with and other info. Student services are on top of any problem and are a fantastic help.

Due to the university being a campus the main SU bar has to step up and does so beautifully by having events almost every night.

Being a campus the university does lack a city life however this does suit me as i am from a rural background. There is a local village and it is lovely.

There are clubs available for just about everything and it really helps people get involved especially in first year.

All lecturers that i have worked with i have found easy to understand and communicate with. If a problem occurred lecturers would try their best to gain the information for you or try and guide you to the answer.

There are global employment opportunities for agriculture students and by going to a reputable agricultural university this increases the likelihood of a company acknowledging an application. Many companies are directly linked with the university and this does create a steady supply of jobs for graduates however companies all over the world employ Harper students.

There is a fantastic communal feel to our student halls and it makes living away from home much easier.

as an agricultural college, the community is mainly white farmer types, which makes it a bit clique-y and not the most inclusive. I feel a bit out of place as a LGBTQ+ Zoology student with blue hair, piercings and slightly alt style. the staff however, are all great and I love the support networks they have in place. not to mention the brilliant library services. there is nothing you can't get help with. all the staff in any department are friendly, approachable and clearly passionate about what they are doing.

you cannot attend the lectures online, which can be both good and bad as it encourages attendance but is also a bit of a struggle sometimes. Uni policy is that every lecture gets recorded (audio over the presentation slides) which is generally followed but occasionally they wont do it. Contact time is about right, with some modules getting 1 or 2 hours per week and others getting 4 hours. but the 4 hour modules only run for half the year. The Zoology modules are varied and engaging and the lecturers usually delve into much more detail as they are sharing their passion. we also have modules on general career skills such as writing CVs and cover letters, advanced skills in MS Word and Excel and recognising your personal work styles.

they added a section when applying for halls to request to be allocated with certain people, e.g. do you like partying/drinking out or do you prefer a quieter hall. the room was a decent size with ensuite bathroom. the only community area was the kitchen. our cleaner Sonya was lovely, she cleaned our rooms once a week and provided plenty of toilet paper and bin bags. the university uses Eduroam wifi and connectivity wasn't the best, it could be quite variable and generally slow.
