Administration is a bit unorganized and they will take forever to respond to emails/help with specific concerns. However, it is a great university with many resources with many students focused on African and Asian languages and culture

Great facilities and safety, decently small rooms

SOAS is a great university. What I definitely consider one of the best aspects is the extremely friendly and accepting atmosphere. Another positive aspect are the studying spaces and library, as well as the campus itself. Just being there makes me very happy and makes my day better. I also think lecturers and the content of modules and readings are an undeniable positive aspect. There’s very little to none modules that are boring or approached in such manner. The lecturers and staff are very friendly and helpful, which makes my university experience even better. The only thing that I could complain about are online services. Getting an emails back regardless of the matter takes a long time, definitely too long to solve any problem or issue in time. Also, SOAS tends to have strikes almost every week, which is very disruptive to our studies. I understand the strikes, their reasoning and I support them and SOAS’ staff, however they way they are conducted and the amount of them is still a major disruption to our education. Besides that, I love this university and I would never change it!

Currently my course is mostly being taught online, however out of 12 hours of lectures just 3 are in person. As I am studying Chinese, this makes my learning extremely difficult, which effects I and my fellow students have already noticed and experienced. Although we get plenty of resources to study from, I believe we get too little time of contact with the tutor. When it comes to work placements, there is none. This factor also makes me quite anxious to the point where I consider transferring to a different course, as I am afraid I will not be able to get a job after graduating.

I dreamt about coming and studying in London since primary school and I enjoy almost every second of being here! London is a great place to study, there’s plenty of things for students to do and enjoy, along with discounts basically everywhere. However, London is extremely expensive. As a Polish national, the costs of living there are overwhelming. Even with working and studying at the same time, as well as getting financial support from my family back in Poland, I can barely afford food and transportation. Besides the costs of living, I enjoy London a lot and wouldn’t want to move out at all.
