The Engineering College of Technology (ECT) is a specialist institution dedicated exclusively to engineering and technology education. Through industry-focused programmes and professional certificates, ECT equips students with the practical skills and expertise needed to thrive in today's rapidly evolving engineering landscape. Developed in collaboration with global industry partners and delivered by experienced engineering professionals, our programmes combine academic excellence with real-world relevance. Fully online and supported by innovative learning technologies, including virtual laboratories, advanced simulation software, and secure online assessment, ECT offers an engaging learning experience for working professionals worldwide. Students benefit from personalised support, small class sizes, and an international learning community while earning globally recognised UK qualifications or professional certificates (3-month, non-accredited Professional Certificates of Competency, delivered by ECT's affiliated institute, EIT). By making world-class engineering education both accessible and affordable, ECT empowers learners to advance their careers without compromising their professional or personal commitments.
For the 2026/27 academic year, ECT is offering two postgraduate degree programmes: the Master of Science (Power System Analysis and Renewable Integration), and the Master of Science (Industrial Automation and Instrumentation Control). Both of these programmes are available for structured online study, and may be studied full-time or part-time.
The virtual learning platform at ECT, Electromeet, has been purpose-built and offers a range of innovative technologies to ensure students obtain a well-rounded, in-depth and specialised engineering education. Unlike many traditional online programmes, those delivered by ECT offer extensive practical learning opportunities alongside lectures and tutorials.
Features include:
At ECT, student life is built around connection, collaboration and support, regardless of where students are in the world. As a fully online institution, learners join a global community of engineering professionals, sharing ideas and experiences with classmates and lecturers across multiple countries and industries.
Rather than studying independently, students will participate in scheduled live and interactive tutorials where they can ask questions, collaborate with peers and engage directly with experienced engineering lecturers. Practical learning is enhanced through remote and virtual laboratories, engineering simulation software and interactive online technologies that replicate real-world engineering environments.
From your first day, you'll receive personalised support from a dedicated Learning Support Officer, who provides guidance throughout every student's studies and helps them balance academic, professional and personal commitments. Small class sizes encourage meaningful interaction with lecturers and fellow students, creating a collaborative learning environment where every student is known and supported. Additional workshops on study skills, time management, wellbeing and career development are available to help students succeed throughout their learning journey.
Whether students are advancing their career while working full-time or studying from another part of the world, ECT's flexible online community ensures they will benefit from expert teaching, professional networking opportunities and personalised support, without the need to relocate or put a career on hold.
ECT's MSc engineering programmes are designed to help experienced professionals develop the advanced technical knowledge and practical skills needed to progress into specialist, senior and leadership roles.
Whether students choose the MSc in Industrial Automation and Instrumentation Control or the MSc in Power System Analysis and Renewable Integration, they will gain expertise in areas experiencing strong global demand, including industrial automation, smart manufacturing, power systems, renewable energy integration, grid modernisation and sustainable infrastructure.
Graduates are well positioned to pursue career opportunities across a wide range of sectors, including energy and utilities, manufacturing, infrastructure, mining, oil and gas, transportation, consulting and industrial technology. The internationally recognised UK qualification also supports career progression with multinational organisations and opportunities to work across global markets.
ECT's industry-led curriculum ensures that the knowledge and skills students develop reflect current engineering practices and emerging technologies, helping them apply what they learn directly to their workplace and enhance their long-term career prospects.
ECT's master's degrees are delivered entirely online, allowing students to study from anywhere in the world without the need to relocate. This enables learners to continue working and manage their personal commitments while earning a globally recognised UK qualification.
In 2026, there are two scholarships open to master's students at ECT. Students must apply directly to be considered.
The ECT Academic Excellence Scholarship offers a 35 percent reduction in tuition fees for a master's programme. It is open to students who have obtained a minimum 2:1 in their undergraduate degree in a related subject area.
The Alison Brown Women in Engineering Scholarship offers a 20 percent reduction in tuition fees to women applying to study on a master's degree. Students must submit a 500-word statement as part of their application, detailing how their degree will benefit their career and community.
Academic requirements
In order to enrol on a master's degree at ECT, students must hold a qualification equivalent to a 2:2 or higher in a UK bachelor's degree with honours. Students from outside the UK are encouraged to check ECT's website to learn which qualifications are accepted from their home country.
Applicants' existing qualification must be in electrical, electronic or mechatronic engineering. Other closely related subjects may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students must also be able to demonstrate that their undergraduate degree contained strong relevant content in at least one of: electrical power systems, control and automation, maths, and programming.
All applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and are subject to Admissions Committee approval.
English language requirements
Students who are not from a majority English speaking country may have to evidence their English language proficiency. For master's degrees, applicants must be able to demonstrate an IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no band score below 6.0. Other equivalent English language qualifications are also accepted.
For the 2026/27 academic year, the tuition fee for a full master's programme (for students who are UK residents) is GBP 9,381. For a professional certificate, the full fee is GBP 933.
Students who are residents of other countries may face different costs. These are detailed on the college's website.
