not bad
Best is the SU and society events. I don’t see any worst
I think the student life of uni at Essex is one of the best things about it. How much the uni host events for students to come together and meet one another is great. However, although the strikes that went on were for a good cause it has significantly impacted certain students. Missing out on core classes will affect us into the following years. Another massive improvement the uni could make is the price of food and drinks provided on campus. Many students struggle with money meaning what we buy must be worth price we are playing for it. I find myself struggling to find cheap affordable decent food while on campus studying. This is something I think most people can agree with me on. Another positive however is the free shuttle bus the campus provides after a night out. This has definitely been used by my friends and myself on nights out especially during the cold nights we are not having to walk home in the freezing cold to avoid paying the cost of an uber. The staff have always made me feel safe and welcome even in my somewhat drunk and vulnerable state. The night life of university is certainly one of the most important things students take into account so this small things makes a masssive difference
Everything is so good!
Great student community, hit or miss buildings with some being ultra modern and some bland 60s brutalist structures
Best aspects is definitely warmth of the lecturers and student unions. Worst aspects, I had a placement in my course originally but had gotten 0 support from it even though this uni advertises itself to have help. I've wanted where people have gone doing the course that I am doing for their placements or where I can find/talk share experiences. Their answer was simply blank. When I asked them if people in my course could find placements they just stared blankly across my face. I had friends from film, psychology, physiologie, language- who also wanted to do placements. Got 0 support and gave up.
The uni has improved ten fold since my course started, so much going on this year and the bar prices have dropped by about a 1/3 !!!
It would be better to have more choices of modules to take but we did lose a lot of staff members due to budget cuts so that means the history department and other humanities departments were hit hard. Everyone’s friendly though and the SU is epic and the lecturers always help you out
Best is the support, whether that be course related or wellbeing. Worse personally is the social aspect as it can be very expensive
Loads of areas to study so always easy to find a place on campus, all with different vibes! However, plugs would be helpful
There is such a lovely social life and student union. Everyone's voices matter and it's a fun and comfortable place to study.
It’s such a nice environment and the people here are so nice, the support from lecturers and the SU is amazing and I have loved my experience also the library is such a great place to study.
I like how everything is in one place and there is so much support from everyone!
There is nice study places but not much nightlife
The best part of my uni experience is student life and the student union. I've felt quite supported as a student and have gained a lot of experience and skills in the past few years. The worst aspect of my uni experience has been how disorganised the university can be. I've gotten emails threatening my visa for attendance when, in fact, I have attended, but the system that is supposed to track our attendance fails, along with other issues.
Best and worst thing is the location which means it has an integrated community but at the same time, it brings a sort of noisy environment. Theres also pretty much nothing else to do past midnight as most places are closed and the uni is isolated
everything is great the lecturers are amazing the help is always easy to get, the accomodation is good
Amazing student Union, occasionally tricky to find where to get help for other issues through normal uni channels. Also à shame we’ve lost so many good staff.
I love the campus,, there are some very distinct areas to explore, but nightlife events seem sparce.

I’ve had amazing talks with the VP Welfare regarding some issues I was going through. The best aspect of my uni experience was that all us international students came together through shared experiences. I love how inclusive the uni is and how considerate it is about students and student life be it financial be it homesickness the support you get from Essex is incredible. The only worst aspect I can think of is probably exam dates and times and how far it is from home. Since i’m an international student i have to book my tickets to back home pretty early and since we don’t know our dates for the exams until November it gets really difficult for my to go back home to enjoy christmas and new years with my family. Last year i was in the A&E and my family wasn’t here to make sure i was okay it’s just really difficult sometimes.
Some lecturers either work from home or are rarely in the Uni so if i need help i have to resort to AI or my peers to help me understand a topic. Some lecturers would just read words off a screen and often it feels like i’m just teaching the topic to myself.
The Location was amazing becuase it was a five minute walk away from my lecture hall. I made amazing friends and it was a blast living on campus but since the room was so small i’d barely have room to wash my hair in the shower and it was really cramped. When showering the whole bathroom would flood because there was no division between the shower area and the rest of the toilet. Have a shared kitchen was sometimes a mess too because of the people i lived with but it’s so easy to focus on the negatives when in reality the positives outweigh them and had a greater impact on me.
