The Islamic Society is great but it doesn’t have a traditional uni feel and some people are very antisocial.
I like uni it's alright
Good diversity, great opportunity, excellent facilities and an overall safe and productive feel to the campus.
The community among students is good. Wide variety of societies and overall great academics wise. No empathy for students, take feedback but don’t change anything until the next year students.
best- islamic community worst- lack of student support
The best parts are the available resources in terms of spaces to study and what is given to us.
Best parts- great support and lecturers, access to laboratories Worst parts- location and environment of unit
Queen Mary University is a very diverse and inclusive institution, where I’ve always felt welcomed and the staff are phenomenal. However, I would say it could be better located, maybe closer to Central London and with a greater variety of businesses nearby.
Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) has its strengths and weaknesses like any institution. Here's a brief overview: **Good Points:** 1. **Academic Reputation:** QMUL is well-regarded for its academic excellence, particularly in fields like law, medicine, engineering, and humanities. 2. **Research Opportunities:** The university has a strong emphasis on research, providing ample opportunities for students to engage in cutting-edge research projects across various disciplines. 3. **Location:** Situated in London, QMUL offers students access to one of the world's most vibrant and culturally diverse cities, providing numerous opportunities for internships, cultural experiences, and networking. 4. **Diverse Student Body:** QMUL boasts a diverse student population, fostering an inclusive and multicultural learning environment where students from different backgrounds can thrive. 5. **Facilities and Resources:** The university offers modern facilities, including state-of-the-art laboratories, libraries, and study spaces, to support students in their academic pursuits. **Bad Points:** 1. **Cost of Living:** London is notoriously expensive, and this can be a significant challenge for students, particularly those from lower-income backgrounds. Accommodation, food, and transportation costs can add up quickly. 2. **Large Class Sizes:** Some students may find that certain classes have large student-to-teacher ratios, which could limit opportunities for individualized attention and interaction with professors. 3. **Urban Environment:** While being in London has its perks, it can also be overwhelming for some students, especially those who prefer a quieter or more campus-oriented setting for their studies. 4. **Competitive Atmosphere:** Being in a prestigious institution like QMUL can sometimes create a competitive atmosphere among students, which may not be conducive to collaboration and a supportive learning environment. 5. **Infrastructure Challenges:** Like many urban universities, QMUL may face infrastructure challenges, such as crowded facilities or limited space, which could impact the overall student experience. Overall, QMUL offers a high-quality education and a wealth of opportunities for students, but it's essential to consider both the positive aspects and challenges when evaluating whether it's the right fit for you.
Having a campus in London is a great opportunity for student life and access numerous facilities ( cafeteria, library..) However, the location is quite far away from main touristic monuments in London. Nevertheless, even though not all facilities are new, overall the campus is quite modern. I am having a great time, thank you!
The teaching is high quality, however the location of the uni is not ideal for social events
Best experience - diverse community
18-24 years
Its a small campus which employs a nice community aspect. As a student who requires extra support I have had a really positive experience However, the surrounding area isn't much to shout about and to go anywhere interesting requires a significant amount of travel. From my experience, there is a lack of nightlife. There are however many interesting societies to join which helps to compensate, especially as many students commute.
Queen Mary University is in such a great location in one of the greatest cities in the world. You have so many options to explore London and get right into the center quickly from public transportation. The campus is compact making it easy to get to class and you don't have to walk a lot to get to restaurants, stores and transportation. The staff, whether it is professors, food services or facility are passionate about their job and are very nice and helpful to everyone. There are people from everywhere here and it isn't hard to meet new people with diverse perspectives and backgrounds and make new friends. The dinning hall food is good and facilities are clean and nice making it an enjoyable experience. The accommodation is great, you have a lot of space to yourself and many options to interact with others. With all of the great features from this university, there are a couple things that could be improved, one being QMPlus, the universities system for module information and structure. This online tool is slow, hard to navigation and overall confusing to use, especially when you are new to the system and have no idea how to use it. Also it is a difficult process to find and pick classes, I didn't have an easy time navigating the whole process, and I feel like it could be improved to make it more student/user friendly. Overall I have had a great experience at Queen Mary.
Great that it's a campus uni and gives a good sense of community.
Best: everything being on one campus, cheaper accommodation since not in central London, student support and great teachers; great student life in London and many activities at the university Worst: sometimes not very helpful lectures and lack of facilities on campus (such as bars etc), expensive to go out
Good experience
Best: diversity, location, vibrant, great number of studying spaces which are never full, great physical book selection stored in library. Worst: online exams which give less reasons for students to better prepare for the exam and learn the content.
In the realm of positive experiences during my university journey, the vibrant and dynamic student union stands out as a beacon of community and connection. This hub of student life not only facilitated social interactions but also played a pivotal role in organizing a myriad of special events that brought the campus to life. From engaging workshops to lively cultural celebrations, the student union created an inclusive environment that transcended the boundaries of academic disciplines. One of the highlights was the diverse range of events hosted throughout the academic year. These gatherings, spanning from cultural festivals to academic symposiums, allowed students to explore interests beyond their coursework. It wasn't just about education within the classroom; the student union enhanced the overall learning experience by fostering a sense of belonging and shared enthusiasm for diverse activities. Adding to this positive tapestry were the exceptional facilities provided by the university, particularly the well-equipped gym. Access to state-of-the-art fitness equipment and a variety of exercise classes contributed significantly to the physical well-being of students. The gym became more than just a place for physical activity; it evolved into a space where students could destress, socialize, and prioritize their health. However, every silver lining has its cloud, and in my university experience, the persistent construction on campus emerged as a prominent downside. While development and improvement are essential, the perpetual state of construction created inconveniences that affected the overall campus ambiance. Certain areas became inaccessible due to ongoing projects, leading to detours and disruptions in the usual flow of campus life. The construction-related inconveniences were not merely logistical; they also impacted the aesthetics of the campus. Areas under construction often looked unkempt, and the constant backdrop of scaffolding and construction equipment gave certain sections a less-than-ideal appearance. This not only detracted from the overall visual appeal of the campus but also, in some instances, made it challenging to fully appreciate the architectural beauty that the university otherwise boasted. In conclusion, while the student union and excellent facilities like the gym enriched my university experience, the omnipresent construction served as a persistent drawback. The dichotomy of positive and negative aspects highlighted the importance of a balanced and well-maintained campus environment for fostering an optimal educational journey.
