The key point for me what makes Leicester such a great place to study is the facilities they have to offer along with the incredible support given by the staff. This has made my experience so much easier and more enjoyable knowing that I have that type of comfort. If I had to say something negative it would just be that I feel that there aren't many accommodations : individual studios to be specific near the university of Leicester compared to the other university.

One main thing is that I believe my Uni really does provide a good amount of learning facilities, the hours are managable and normal and all tutors have their contact hours which are all well suited for me, the support is always available!

Personally for the value of money there could be a lot more improved. At my accommodation, the lifts rarely ever work and being on the 14th floor this awful, the main door has been broken for a few months now, the building is regularly cleaned but isn't the cleanest compared to smaller buildings. Besides that I do always feel safe, my inquiries are often met and the staff are welcoming and nice. The location is my highlight as I am situated not far from corner shops, Lidl and the city centre.

I think the Students Union is great, there is a wide range of activities (societies, destress week, festival of careers etc) and support (academic, mental health and help with job applications, to name a few). However lots of the uni buildings are quite run down and/or are missing some useful facilities (like kettles or microwaves).

What is great about the course is small group teaching - I don't think I've ever had a class with more than 10 other people. Tutors are really supportive and genuinely want you to do well. I'd personally prefer the option to take more than 4 modules per semester. There is also the option to do a summer school and a year abroad, which is really helpful for improving our language abilities. In regards to facilities, I think the Modern Languages department gets a bit overlooked. For example there are never enough copies of compulsory books in the library, and the same goes for textbooks. For a reading-based degree I think there should be more. We also don't have a department building so seminars can take place in the Geography department or even the medical building. This means we don't have access to dictionaries and other materials unless we personally carry them around at all times.

When I stayed in halls in first year, it was in a village called Oadby. It is a 40 minute walk from uni and there is a shuttle bus, but in my day there wasn't the option to buy single tickets - just a termly/yearly pass which was quite expensive. So it was quite isolating in that sense. I was happy with my room, but my housemates had problems with windows, bugs and other things so we needed to call maintenance at least once every two weeks. I was allocated my room based on my preferences, except I was not placed with anyone on my course - so during lockdown I was all alone in figuring out what to do and how my course actually works. There are other halls close to uni, and a newly built site has just opened, but these rooms are significantly more expensive.
