Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
BCU is a fantastic all round university- the course standard is amazing, and for me the other important aspect of uni is the experiences you gain, and this is where BCU excels! From helping you set up your own society, to amazing events, fairs and talks, to trips and fantastic pastoral support from the SU and staff members. Everyone at this uni is supportive and I feel like I can really flourish while I am here.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Excellent. My campus has a wonderful range of art equipment, and other campuses seem to constantly be supported and well funded.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Again, top notch support and a variety of different supports, from the ASK services, the SU, and mentors that work for specific schools within the uni. The school of art mentor, Nita, is a fantastic asset and support for the school :)
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
They are attentive and employ many different people across the uni, so most students who seek help or advice from the SU can find the right person to talk to! They are active within all the campuses and they are a huge presence within the uni.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
This is one of the best cities in the UK to live in! you can never get bored, Ive been here 2 years and I still have a ton of things to do and try! I am not really a clubber but there is still loads to do past the usual nightlife that most students want.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
At BCU, with the help of the SU, it is so easy to set up your own society! I help run 2 societies, we have a refresher fair in January which advertises societies and sports, as well as the welcome fair in september. There are funds that societies can apply for too.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The tutors on my course are all practicing in their field of art, which means that their teaching and knowledge is very current and relevant. I work with a team of students within my course to work on improving the course as I experience it, and I am seeing changes while still completing my degree! This is a good scheme.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Some areas of the uni are still developing contacts and strong employability links, but there are lots of opportunities, both internal and external, to meet people from the industry I hope to go into!
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The BCU owned accommodation is fairly well maintained and is reasonable, but i would like to see more bcu owned accommodation in the centre of town.
