Why choose this course?

The HNC Civil Engineering Studies course is intended as your first step towards becoming a Professional Engineering Technician. Engineering Technicians are concerned with the solution of different types of engineering problems using proven techniques and theories.

Engineering Technicians are equipped to carry out supervisory and technical roles within industrial and public organisations, and are competent to apply their skills within defined fields of technology.

Practitioners that undertake the HNC Civil Engineering Studies course will have the opportunity to develop their competencies in theoretical and practical knowledge of civil engineering procedures and their application for the solution of real-life problems.

Successful completion of the course will enable graduates to explore further education opportunities by progressing to a Civil Engineering degree, to seek Incorporated or Chartered Civil Engineering status and to become a practitioner in the global community.

What happens on the course?

You will be covering fundamental subjects of the civil engineering discipline such as mathematics, structures and design.

You will also study the properties of soils and ground water in a civil engineering context (geotechnics), together with aspects of site surveying and setting-out.

We have close links with the Institution of Civil Engineers and will assist students in meeting the requirements for registering as Engineering Technicians.
