Why choose this course?
This award equips you with the relevant skills and knowledge to pursue a career in accountancy, finance, banking and a wide range of management roles.
The programme has been designed specifically to provide you with maximum exemptions from internationally recognised accounting professional body examinations, giving you a head start when it comes to qualifying as an accountant. In addition to your academic studies, you will also be trained in the use of accounting software, analytical skills and report writing and further employability skills which will enable you to better adapt to the rapidly changing environment of work.
What's unique about this course?
This course has been designed to incorporate internationally recognised skills from professional accounting and finance bodies, giving you a head start in qualifying as an accountant.
All students have the opportunity to take an optional placement year, providing valuable workplace experience in an accounting or finance role.
The University of Wolverhampton partners with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in their Accelerate programme, which provides final-year students an accelerated path to ACCA membership.
What happens on the course?
On a sandwich course, your third year will be a supervised placement. This gives you the opportunity to apply and develop the knowledge and skills you have gained in the first two years of your course, before you move on to your final year.
This award provides enhanced employment opportunities in the financial sector. Specifically, through exemptions from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualifications, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) qualifications it provides a fast route to gaining a professional accountancy qualification. These accountancy qualifications are internationally recognised so a career in accountancy will enable successful students to broaden their careers into an international arena. The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance award will also enhance the opportunities of successful students in the fields of banking, finance, financial services and business management, by providing an enhanced exposure to accounting, finance, and business knowledge and skills.
The degree can also be used as the basis for postgraduate study.
Our purpose-built Business School, the Lord Swraj Paul Building, sits at the heart of the University's City Campus - Molineux, right next to Wolverhampton Wanderers' Molineux Stadium. The six storey centre is home to an executive education suite, innovative teaching and learning spaces, an IT suite, consulting rooms and a central social space and cafe.
