There is sometimes a disconnect between the way in which the university is run/operated and the way in which it is sold to the students. It can mostly be put down to bad optics, but the university management have a tendency to say one thing and the do another.

I'm doing a PhD so most of my work is done alone, in an office with a computer. Thinking back to my UG, which i also did here, the facilities and course content were broadly good, if a bit old. Most academics seemed to care and put a lot of effort into teaching. Some of the poorer ones were clearly research focussed and saw the teaching as a hindrance. But these were rare

This was years ago, again when i was UG... but the halls were fine. Exactly what you'd expect. A small room with a small bed. Plenty of storage and a desk. Fine. The bed could have been bigger, but that aside it was an ok place to live for 10 months. The kitchen facilities were good - any issues were down to other students rather than the facilities themselves. That said, the cleaning staff could have been a bit more engaged.
