Uni of Wolves, in particular the School Of Art is an amazing place to study. The staff are so helpful and really get you to do your own thinking by small prompts and questions if you're struggling. The facilities are fantastic, the art building contains everything you'd ever need for any sort of art from glass to photography. The library is also a mine of information waiting to be discovered as is the online library which gives you access to millions of references. The City campus is pretty close together and close to the centre of this diverse Black Country city. The buildings are well thought out and the help is always around if you decide you need help with something. I'm proud to have been a Uni of Wolves student for nearly two years, on a part time degree course. It's flexible for me so that I can continue with my full time job also. The diversity of the place is also mind blowing, especially as I come from a Shropshire town not known for being very diverse. Everyone is so friendly and helpful with everyone feeling together as part of this university. I've not used the Student Union bar as I am a mature part time student and it might be a bit weird going and hanging with a load of 20+ year olds. The clubs societies and other extra curricular activities are varied and encompass something for everyone. There has been a cut of a number of art courses which I think might prove detrimental to the university as a whole and I'd love to see these courses come back online and ready to accept a new batch of willing and eager students.

Best parts of the course is when you have access to all of the available facilities and the lecturers and technicians have the time to help you get to grips with the techniques. It's mostly taught on campus in the classrooms or studio areas and the online learning tools used for communication whilst being a little complex at first soon become easy to understand and use. The equipment they have in the stores is pretty industry leading too and a joy to work with. The worst parts of the course are when there are fixed times to retrieve equipment from the media stores and it's a little limiting, especially when the person doing the distribution and record keeping is already stressed with his day job. Not his fault but it can be tricky sometimes to get equipment booked out and booked in... Not the lecturers fault at all but there has been some industrial action that has impacted learning at the uni this year, on top of the covid challenges that were already causing issues. If the universities (not a single university) treated the staff fairly and helped retention then this might not have occurred. We have also had a turnover of lecturers on the course as they are known as visiting lecturers but it feels a little disorganised and unfair on these professionals to treat them as flexible labour. I'm aware of flexible labour and the need for it in the economy but it feels like a generall reliance on it in this case.
