University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I am in my third year, and I am sad to be leaving University of Worcester soon. I have loved all aspects of my experience, both positive and negative, as they have helped me develop my character and understanding of what's expected of me. I would encourage anyone to go to uni (especially my uni!) and experience it, I could do it all over again if I could.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
My university has amazing facilities. Not only is it accessible to those with certain disabilities, but it also caters to specific courses so well. My university has a mock court room, jury room and robing room within the Law school, which has helped myself and my peers to engage in a realistic setting and understand further.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
I have always found my university support to be accessible and good. Although I have not sought out personal support, we are clearly told what is available and how to reach these services. In terms of academic support, we are lucky that our university is smaller, as all lecturers know us by name and can give us one-on-one feedback that actually helps.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Our students union have a wide range of different events and things going on. I particularly love vintage fairs held on site. The SU is a very welcoming place with loads to do even when there isn't any events on. There's also things for sale, such as international food and fresh produce. My only criticism would be that I would love to have more Arts related events, however my uni is very 'sporty'.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
My uni city is incredible. It is the perfect size (for me) as it's not too large. However it is still accessible and has everything you would find in a larger city. There's so much to do, no matter what your preferences are. Everyone is so lovely and welcoming. Location is beautiful, and it's a river city so you can even go boating!
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are only a handful of clubs in Worcester, however the sheer amount of societies and events makes up for it! The nightlife is great and the people you can meet when joining a society and going to their socials will always be friends for life!
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I absolutely love my course! Every week we have a two hour lecture for each module, and an hour seminar for each module to discuss the topic and what we have learnt, and really round out our understanding. Our lecturers always ensure that we are engaged with our topics and can discuss them openly within seminars. Occasionally we switch it up and do online work and quizzes, and have had the opportunity to go on trips to see legal institutions in action. The workload and outside reading can be daunting, but we understand that it is put in place in order to help us have the best understanding possible.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
12
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
The university of Worcester has consistently encouraged myself and my peers to consider what we want to do after we finish university. I am in third year now, but we have had employability fairs, talks relating to employability and careers, and lectures surrounding this topic since first year. My university are great at supporting their students who may be having a difficult time deciding what they want to do after they receive their degree. It has always been clear that learning and using our transferrable skills in the most appropriate and dynamic ways possible is important. There are also work placements available on most courses, which help when gaining new knowledge and skills. The careers department are amazing.
