I love that York is a campus University, having all facilities in one place creates a wonderful sense of community

The location is great, just a quick bus journey into the city, the reinstated free campus bus makes it easy to go between campuses or just a short walk. The vle makes it easy to access online resources, although mildly confusing to navigate initially. There are some great events organised by the uni, but some could be advertised betted as I've missed out on things that I would've enjoyed doing because I didn't know they were happening.

The contact hours are very minimal, with only 2 hours of work with a tutor per module. This can result in a lack of structure and motivation, which took some getting used to at first. Getting to know other people on my course is difficult as we have barely any classes. The variety of lecturers means we get taught by experts in the texts and we are able to book contact hours with any member of staff in the department so can discuss any ideas further with lecturers or tutors. The assessment through essays allows me to spend time developing my work, we choose our own text from the module and create our own title so it is entirely unique to what we've felt was the most interesting text from each module.

The value of the accomodation is excellent, I live in the newest college so the room is in excellent condition, the kitchen area is great, its got sofas and a dining table which is better than I've seen in some other colleges. I've got an ensuite which is definitely worth it, having an ensuite wasnt that important to me, but because of the great value for money I chose Kato anyway. The hub has events going on most days, although the emphasis on free food by the committee isn't really evident in what they offer. The gates are locked on an evening and weekends, they are a great safety feature, but residents should definitely have key card access to enter through the gates when they are locked, I would feel just as safe and actually be able to get into my accomodation without having to go through the hub most of the time.
