Absolutely beautiful and homely location, brilliant course and student support.

Not many contact hours - I would like more! Brilliant level of teaching and fascinating modules.

Pretty expensive (as is every college), and laundry is an additional cost. Great location however, and lovely room.

I like the variety of buildings and facilities, and how the two campuses are easily reachable. There are lots of study spaces which make me feel encouraged to work and my tutors have almost always been helpful and supportive (especially in the languages department). East campus looks beautiful at night and the university is only a short bus ride away from York city centre and the Minster, which students can visit for free. That being said though there isn’t much variety of shops that are easy to get to without taking the bus- the nisa shops on campus can be very expensive. Student Union activities are great at the university, cheap admission to the student cinema is a great opportunity to get out with flatmates and societies like yoga society have made me already feel welcome and allow me to stay active numerous times a week without paying extortionate prices to visit a studio like at home. Also convenient is the handful of Amazon lockers and campus mailrooms, as well as post boxes, which for the most part are in very convenient locations for me. Seminars have helped me to start interesting conversations with others on my course which every week encourages me to do readings and finish work to a high standard.

In some ways at this point I wish I had more lectures in the week as each seminar is 2 hours and can be quite lengthy when they are right after another. However the tutors have been really nice and inspiring, which encourages me to complete work. There is a lot of time in the day to do independent study, which personally I benefit from as I can easily plan my day. Lectures are also uploaded online to watch again, but this isn’t the same for seminars.

My college is one of the new ones, Which means it is a lot more modern than some on campus west and has a few more facilities. The price however is massive and my flat was allocated on the top (3rd) floor of my block- it can be really hard to carry things like shopping up 3 flights of stairs without a lift! However I like that my college is close on the path to the other campus where I have all of my lectures and seminars, as this encourages me to walk every day. The weekly free college meal usually has a nice variety of options but I wish there was a way to save up weeks for when going on my colleges day is impractical for me.
