OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I have enjoyed my experience so far. I feel it has improved significantly over time, though the first few weeks were particularly difficult. There have been minimal problems with my course, accommodation or socially. Though sometimes challenging, the experience is definitely worthwhile.
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Careers adviser for my department has personally contacted all students to offer help, advise and recommend relevant opportunities. Appointments available for careers advise, CV writing etc. Work placements on offer include York students in schools (ysis) which involves working in a school for either a morning or afternoon each week for a term. There is a focus on skills which are also useful in interviewing and employment, e.g. Presentations to improve communication skills.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The lectures are made interesting and enjoyable.
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The students union is useful as it offers a range of help and support, advice and guidance, and opportunities and experiences. The societies and social events are a good mix to suit everyone.
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Really nice accommodation, the bedroom is spacious with lots of storage space, and an ensuite bathroom which is cleaned by the accommodation services every month. Big kitchen shared between 12 with plenty of cupboard, fridge and freezer space for everyone, which is also cleaned by the accommodation service ever week.
How good are your university's facilities?
The university offers a good range of facilities, all of which are modern and in good physical and working condition.
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
The city is really beautiful with a good range of shops, restaurants and cafes. There are also looks of attractions. The night life in the city centre is very Student focused with a wide range of clubs, pubs and bars to cater for all.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There's a huge range of society's so there's something for everyone, and if there isn't it's easy to set up a society for something you love yourself! The prices are fairly reasonable and the quality of the activities are to a high standard and really enjoyable.
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Lectures and supervisors are regularly available to meet in person and respond quickly to emails as well. Feedback on assessments is always clear and useful and tutors always offer to go over comments in more detail individual if wanted/needed.
There are many different types of personal support including disability services, open doors team, counselling through the student union, and links/contact information to outside support.
