My teachers and lecturers are super enthusiastic and engaging, the academic support for languages is really good. However the admin is terrible

There are not as many contact hours as I would like for the tuition fee and some classes are online which would be better in person

Amazing location, very safe and great community

SOAS has a unique atmosphere. Yes, it is a typical small university tucked away in central London. Yes, it is niche as many courses are specialised for particular fields and studies. Therefore, it is the sort of place not designed and structured for everyone. Yet, it is the perfect place for students and scholars who are interested in these fields. For that reason, as a student, you are surrounded by people who share similar passions and obsess great ideas. SOAS is also unique in terms of the teacher and student relationship, lecturers, mostly, are professional and erudite. Yet, they are very easy-going, considerate, and responsible to their students. They treat you like friends. They are also good listeners during supervision. It is a relaxing place, SOAS, for both students and scholars to delve into their study and research.

As a PhD student, SOAS has the best supervisors to support your research. The programme is intensive in terms of time sensibility. However, the whole path is clearly paved. The doctoral school has also provided many funding opportunities. Supervisors and school faculties have often shared information regarding academic conferences, job vacancies, workshops, and other types of activities. The learning and teaching team offers great support as well regarding different kinds of training available for graduate teaching assistants which for itself is a great opportunity for doctoral students to earn teaching experience.
