St Mary’s University is in the London borough of Richmond-upon-Thames, a safe and green suburban environment. Access to central London is simple thanks to the Strawberry Hill national rail station and local buses which all run from near the university. Richmond Overground and tube station is also close by, offering quick and easy transport across the city.
The university was established 1850, with a Catholic identity still retained today. While the university aims to develop students in accordance with God’s will as understood by the Catholic religion, the university is open to students of any or no faith as well as Catholic students.
For rugby fans, Twickenham Stadium is close by, home of English rugby. National finals are played here, as well as international games. Hampton Court Palace is also nearby, as is Richmond Park. The easy access to green space offers respite from the bustle of city life, meaning students at St Mary’s get the best of both worlds. The city offers a wide range of entertainment, eateries and drinking establishments to suit any preferences.
Being in southwest London means you’ll have easy access to Heathrow Airport from St Mary’s. It’s also only a short drive from the M4, and the London transport network means connections to major London train stations are simple.
St Mary’s offers a range of undergraduate courses with a foundation year, allowing students who might not meet the entry requirements for the three-year program to complete a year of study prior to progressing onto the main degree path.
You can also study some subjects as Accelerated courses at St Mary’s. Accelerated courses require study over the summer period and mean you can complete your undergraduate degree in two years.
Depending on the course you choose, you may also be able to add a placement year between your second and final year of study. Placements are paid, and offer real workplace experience to boost your CV.
Business management degrees are accredited by a range of different professional bodies, so you can be assured your degree will be approved by employers when you graduate.
Courses are offered in the following schools: Business and Law; Education and Teaching; Humanities, Theology and Ethics; Media, Communications and Creative Arts; Social, Political and Behavioural Sciences; and Sport, Health and Science.
For LLB Law, you’ll need a total of 96-112 UCAS points, which should include at least two B grades at A-level (or equivalent). You’ll also need GCSE grade C/4 in English and maths.
For BA English Literature, you’ll be asked for 96-112 UCAS points, which should include at least two B grades at A-level or equivalent. You should also be studying English at Level 3, or a related essay subject may also be considered.
BSc Psychology applicants should be expecting to achieve 104-120 UCAS points and should hold a grade C/4 in GCSE maths.
If you want to study BA Education Studies, you’ll be asked for 96-104 UCAS points as well as GCSE maths and English at grade C/4 or above.
All offers are made based on individual applications, and entry requirements are intended as a guide only. Entry requirements are subject to change. Any questions regarding entry requirements can be directed to the admissions team at St Mary’s.
All rooms provided by St Mary’s University are catered, which means 14 meals per week are provided in the accommodation fee. Students can get these meals in the refectory.
You’ll be able to choose between ensuite, standard, and shared rooms. Shared rooms are twin rooms, so you’ll share your room with another student. The shared rooms are large enough for you to both have your own space within the room. All rooms come with basic furniture, access to kitchenette or kitchen facilities and rent is inclusive of all bills.
There are a number of accessible rooms suitable for disabled students, and there are also blue badge parking spaces available on campus.
If the university accommodation isn’t for you, there’s plenty of opportunities to rent privately across the city. If you opt to rent privately, you’ll have the freedom to arrange your own meals, but you’ll also likely have to organise paying bills yourself.
