Located in the bustling canter of London, The Place is one of the most exciting contemporary dance spaces in Europe - a hive of talent and opportunity which has been an influential institution in the performing arts landscape globally since it first opened its doors in 1969.
London has an incredibly rich and diverse heritage of dance and performance, and is a melting pot of styles, cultures and disciplines. London Contemporary Dance School is a globally renowned specialist dance university and has called The Place home for more than fifty years. It offers a specialised programme of postgraduate degree courses, which aim to expand existing artistic practices, putting students in the driving seat, integrating and building on applied research whilst continuing to develop their professional portfolio of work.
There are currently two postgraduate courses offered: the MA Expanded Dance Practice, where students work with multiple professional artists and take their practice to the next level and the MA Screendance course, which is a practice-oriented programme, examining movement on screen and is uniquely the only course of its kind in the world.
Postgraduate students benefit from a close-knit community of students and practitioners, with a full range of facilities including 11 professional-standard dance studios and a 288-seat theatre, which presents more than 200 performances annually, including many student works. Degrees are accredited through the University of the Arts London.
The Place is a truly exceptional institution to study a postgraduate course in dance and performing arts. Not only does the school have a long-established history of education, but its London location places students at the heart of dance and performance culture in the UK and Europe.
In addition to The Place’s flagship Expanded Dance Practice postgraduate course, it offers a unique Screendance master’s programme – the only course of its kind in the world.
Students benefit from an international community of aspiring practitioners and access to a range of student and career services, which help postgraduates to secure exciting professional roles after graduation. London Contemporary Dance School has a graduate employment rate of 80%, with students going on to work with exciting creative organisations in London and beyond.
