International Politics with French BA (Hons)

University rating (4)

In terms of location, it is ideal whilst studying your degree you have a real chance to explore a new environment and make links with people you may not have had the chance to do before. Living in Paris opens a gateway of opportunities to find people with similar niches to you from a variety of different backgrounds - for example activism really manifests itself in Paris in a way of crowd involvement unlike movements in the UK, and I have found it an incredible way to make new friends! In terms of resources however it is a little bit harder. The university does not have access to an onsite medical practitioner, and social spaces are quite small. For prospective students who may be sensitive to overstimulation or in need of that medical support, ULIP currently does not provide those facilities. In terms of cost, there are many accessible facilities for students CROUS + CAF, however these come from outside the university. As a student from a lower income background, these forms of government aide have helped massively but the university does not have a lot of financial aide. This problem is also made more difficult when considering the university does not have an onsite campus accommodation option. The company they work with for student living costs around 3k per term, which is devastating for lower income students. I live in co-living with other students which brings my rent down a lot, but it is still tough.

SECOND YEAR

International Politics with French BA (Hons)

University rating (4)

The University of London Institute in Paris allows students to live in Paris for three years while studying at a prestigious UK university. The courses allow site visits to various political sites in and around Paris which greatly enhances the learning experience. That being said, being such a small institute (just over 200 students in total across the three years and masters), it lacks some of the resources that other universities provide, for example, the on-site welfare infrastructure is severely limited (although external services are provided).

Studying French in Paris is an unmatched experience. The uni is quite small which is a disadvantage because there’s not a mega booming student culture/life. But its also quite nice because we are all quite close as a year group.

Living in Paris is the most incredible experience, on that basis I adore university however the size of the uni means resources are limited and you will have a very different experience to most UK universities

Love the location and we’re a small university so we’re a very close knit student community. That being said our campus is small and there aren’t many facilities

Amazing being in Paris, comforting having an English feel when moving country. Interesting courses. Can be a bit too small - very different experience to typical unis

International Politics BA (Hons)

University rating (4)

Because its so small I'm able to speak with my professors and get clarification on my feedback which I have seen improve the quality of my work over the past few years. The only downside is the lack of facilities- it would be great if we could have access to a gym or other libraries through our univristy. the most important thing I think would be to improve the quality of French classes for student that don't speak French when they begin university. Currently the support for these students to excell in the language is very minimal. By the end of first year all IP students should be able to speak basic French but right now there are only A1&2 classes available once a week . this is not enough. Perhaps having closer relations with French universities like the Sorbonne (which I believe we were partnered with at one point) would encourage this.

As it’s such a small uni you have great relationships with the lecturers. It could be improved by more choices of societies although that’s down to students to make.
