Great School for Pharmacy that is funded by University of Kent and University of Kent in a specially built campus in Medway that is new compared to most universities. It is a fairly new course having been running for around a decade. The course is great in terms of the way it is connected to the industry and enables placements which as encapsulated into the course itself so this cannot be underestimated as a valuable aspect of your transition into the desire career path which you are to pursue.

I have extremely fond memories of my time at Medway School of Pharmacy. The entire staff were and I assume still are very approachable and willing to help. It was obvious that they genuinely cared about you as a person, wanting you to succeed in all aspects, not least professionally but on a personal level too. I have been fortunate enough to have worked in many different areas not solely confined to Pharmacy since graduating and it is clear that the foundation that was laid early on through the efforts of all at Medway have stood to me. A pharmacy degree is in my belief one of the most intense degrees to undertake (although I may be biased) but by the nature of the support structures in place in Medway it didn't seem like a chore.

Great library facilities. The sports facilities are were somewhat lacking when I was there but these could have improved since.

MSOP has a great personal tutor system in place. If you are struggling there is always someone to talk to. It is clear they do actually care and will try and help you in any way possible. Very down to earth and approachable staff.

Medway isn't exactly the most cosmopolitan of locations if the truth be known, but it is a perfect location to get to London from. Many students from overseas (especially Ireland and Greece) have relatively easy access to London airports. The Universities at Medway seem to have grown a lot since I was there so I presume the services catered towards students have too!

Great selection of Clubs and Societies in comparison to other Uni's that I have attended since. The Medway Pharmacy Students' Association is one of the most active societies on campus and is heavily supported by the school. They organise lots of events throughout the year, well worth joining. Its a great way to get to know others in other years of the course for peer advice!

At times the timetabling was a little haphazard but I believe this has been smoothed out now. My pre-reg training was in a large teaching hospital along with 9 other pre-regs from all over the UK and I can honestly say that I always felt that I was on par with the others. I think Medway focused especially on the clinical aspects of pharmacy whilst giving you a good grounding in Public Health and Evidenced Based Medicine which is vitally important. The core sciences were taught maybe to a lesser degree than other schools however I still feel from having worked with other scientists that I have attained a good foundation in many aspects from biochemistry to drug design and delivery. Fantastic lecturers who are obviously passionate about their respective areas. There is a lot of research going on in the school also which makes for a really interesting environment to learn in!

Lots of placements throughout the course means you will never be short on references. Its down to your own attitude at the end of the day to make the most of the opportunities that are given to you whilst at university. Many students get offered their pre-reg whilst still at Uni from connections made whilst on placement. Many of my friends who are now qualified are still working for local pharmacy chains and hospitals in the area.
