Sheffield Hallam is so fun! my only criticism would be size of the library which becomes a particular issue around exams but apart from that im having the time of my life.

Down to earth, fun people. Most halls are in a good location. Flats/houses are cheap. Amazing nightlife. Shopping very good. Great choice of restaurants/bars. Many cheap alternatives. Feel of the city is always friendly. Two footy teams to watch. Supermarkets near all accommodation. Guaranteed to meet similar people to you. Awful SU. Poor academic and personal support. So many hills to walk up! Hallam has two campuses (City & Collegiate) spaced far apart. Uni doesn't offer very good/cheap food or drink. Library never has computers apart from silly times. Lectures are often spaced out in the day so you're bored. Long walk to uni from Eccy Road/Broomhill (though you won't be alone).

So-so I would say. The university health centre is very good but very busy. Academic support is non-existent until you're dissertation; you're expected to communicate completely by email and, if you don't get a helpful reply (or no reply at all), then you could struggle to understand aspects of a module/s. All lecture slides go up on the university site soon after lectures and it is worth printing them out and saving them to use when doing assignments. That is about as personal the support gets academically!

Terrible. I did a year at UCLan in Preston before swapping course (and uni) and the difference is massive. UCLan SU offered a range of activities and the SU was always busy, offering food and drink at low prices and providing entertainment almost every night of the week. The Hallam SU is busy during Freshers (people don't know where to go at this point) but there is too much on offer at better prices elsewhere. The competition starves the SU of any custom, resulting in a terrible atmostphere. Location at the bottom of the campus (on the wrong side) side doesn't help as most Hallam students live on Eccy Road, in town or in halls nowhere near the campus.

Fantastic city during term time. Me and my mates have been out in cities all over the country and Sheffield is in the Top 3. Don't be put off by the classic "rough locals go out at the weekends" either; the locals are brilliant and a lot of people out are visiting Sheffield for the weekend so you get a good mix. If you're really that bothered, the student nights on Saturdays at Uni of Sheff are a right laugh. Shopping is amazing; lots of vintage shops and Meadowhall is 20 mins away on the tram. Same goes for restaurants etc, there's a huge choice for all budgets.

I played Rugby League in first year and part of second year, but the workload for dissertation piled up and I couldn't carry on. The 'hardcore' players invest too much time and money into sport and it often ends up reflecting in their degree classification. My money was drained by rugby socials in first year and I really struggled financially. The attitude is "if you miss something then you're not committed", but its often not as simple as that. I'd recommend trying something new or different in freshers. The 'big' sports are full of nutters, so beware if you're not used to the initiations!

It was a small course therefore support in some modules was good. My personal tutor and dissertation tutor were brilliant and helped me achieve a good degree level, though this is only because I requested to be tutored by them and acted on the advice they offered.

The course didn't cover enough 'real life' skills, but I've heard this from people from all sorts of courses from lots of different universities. I was lucky to walk into the graduate job I'm in now straight out of uni; most people on my course have struggled to find anything despite the shortage of planners at the moment. Support was available for careers advice but I only used the service once and did not rate it very highly - they gave you the usual CV advice etc but its not enough at this level when you're looking for a career.

Flat above Pizza Express on Division Street. Location brilliant for everything. Not in the best condition and the layout and rooms are similar to halls but we're paying £70 a week which is very cheap for in town.
