Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Overall I have had a great time at university despite the pandemic taking the entirety of my second year online. The lecturers are helpful, accessible and knowledgeable, the assessments are graded fairly and there is plenty of time and support to do them well. I am going to continue studying at DMU for a Masters as I believe that the quality and the community that DMU provides is something that you would be pressed to find elsewhere.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
The university has a lot of communal spaces, two libraries, silent and chatty study areas as well as group work areas all around the campus. Laptops, microphones and video cameras are able to be lended. The communal spaces are mostly clean.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The university has a lovely disability team who, despite the slowness of GPs on campus, do their best to ensure that students are supported. There are a variety of ways to get involved with them, but they cover everything from physical to mental wellbeing and disability.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
This course is mostly in-class, with some lectures that aren't interactive asynchronous and online. The staff have been very quick to adjust to the pandemic guidance and have kept us safe and informed. Every student has a personal tutor that they can go to regarding any help they might need.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
150
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
I am currently doing a Frontrunner internship that is offered by DMU. There are a plethora of placement year options for those who want to try a sandwich year, and there are also a lot of online resources. DMU Works is a great help with all employability issues.
