From the first day arriving at Derby Univeristy I knew I had made the right choice with my apprenticeship OT course. Derby Uni has the student at the heart of its focus. The univeristy has a great feeling about it when you walk through its doors. There is something "pure dead brilliant" about when you walk through the doors, open spaces, warm and inviting areas with good spacious areas to work and study. The support I have had since starting my course has been brilliant, doesn't matter which dept all staff have been happy to support and answer questions. I cant really say any negatives in regards to my course at all. I would mark small minors down on location and transport, mainly due to buses being packed to get to the univeristy in the morning from the train station. I have walked it a few times but its a good 50minutes with a full bag of books can be a bit of a workout! Like anything more transport links, parking and possibility of free bus again would be advantageous.

I attend 2 days over the month as im carrying out an apprenticeship qualification. The content is a blend of face to face lecture/online and work full time this blend of learning supports my development of becoming an OT. We have a lovely group who all communicate well and are supportive of each other. The learning materials are very much varied to support the different learner. Lots of reading/great activities when in univeristy and always opportunities to check in with lecturers at any time. I have always been able to ask for help. The downside of the apprenticeship has to be the drive to keep going to complete your weekly tasks and the motivation to push yourself to get the work done. Its something to bear in mind when working full time that you also have a big chunk of studies to also carry out.

It has been an amazing experience hereat the University of Derby.

There is no placement in the program as opposed to other Universities
