The FdA in Youth and Care studies has been specifically designed to meet the localised and regional needs of the youth and care sector. It is an integrated course that combines the theoretical concepts that relate to young people, caring for them and helping them to care for themselves, whilst working within the broader care sector. This includes residential care settings, homeless hostels, supported lodgings for young people, youth offending programs. Students will develop a flexible and reflective approach to professional practice founded on the principles and ethos of working with young people within a social care setting. They will develop an increased awareness of the different roles and functions of statutory, voluntary and third sector organisations and the different constraints within the current policy context. This programme involves placement opportunities for students within a range of organisations that reside within the youth and care sector which will help to broaden horizons and develop a critical understanding of the roles and responsibilities organisations play to deliver positive outcomes for young people and other service users within the care sector.
