I love where it is in the valley surrounded by nature. However the student union bar does lack of often very quiet and is not open all the time.
The best aspects of this university ranged from the faculty to the opportunities that it creates all including the highest level of education for an undergraduate degree that I have seen currently available in the United Kingdom. Worst aspects are difficult to come across as very little can be deemed as negative
The campus is not very accessible with it being on a very steep hill. The student experience for me isn’t the best as everyone is mostly local and doesn’t seem welcoming to making new friends. The student union is decent, but it’s hard to know when it’s open or what is on. Lectures, lecturers and facilities can’t be faulted. Student support is overall good
I love the student supports and lectures. The best thing about the teacher is they never say I'm wrong, they will somehow connect my answer to another thing or the question. I never feel embarrassed. Also the career services are great. I am doing my internship in second year and the experience is valuable. I don't find anything wrong with the education system just as an international student it often is difficult to consider all the financial settings. So I often miss out things or events. That's just it. I love studying here.
It’s a great place to study, the library has been helpful especially the usw find it tool online which saves having to visit the library.
Great teaching methods and modules materials
We have access to a wide variety of équipement and connections. We are given time to work on our own projects along with the course work. The international team is not very responsive and hard to get a hold of. Which can make some things difficult for us as international students. There is a constant anxiety about if there’s going to be issues with our visas or things that would put our visas on the line. The lecturers, course leaders, and admissions are super helpful with these issues.
As a current final-year law student at the University of South Wales, my experience so far has been largely positive. The law course is engaging and covers a good balance of both theoretical and practical aspects, which has helped prepare me for future career paths. Many of the lecturers are knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely supportive, and they are willing to help when clarification or guidance is needed, especially in the later years of the course. The university offers good facilities and learning resources, including online materials and library access, which are particularly helpful when managing a heavier workload in final year. However, there are still areas that could be improved. Communication from the university can sometimes be unclear or delayed, particularly regarding assessments, deadlines, or administrative matters. More detailed and consistent feedback on assignments would also be beneficial, especially in final year where clear guidance is important for improvement. Overall, USW is a supportive place to study law, and my experience has been positive, but improved organisation and communication would further enhance the student experience.
The university is built on a hill so it’s not very disability accessible but transport services on campus make it easier to access amenities such as on campus accomodation. It being a small university make it the ideal place to have lecturer to pupil support without worrying about feeling unheard or unsupported
Everything good but make the library 24/7, so the students on campus and everyone else too, has somewhere warm and good to revise at any time.

Staff are genuinely invested and interested in you as an individual as well as a students, they will always make time and support you where possible and if they aren’t able to do it themselves they will always find out who or where you need to go to find the support. There is plenty to get involved in while at university but it can be difficult to work out where you need to go or who to speak to sometimes and finding the information online can be a task in itself.
Overall, my experience at this university has been largely positive, primarily due to the exceptional level of support provided by the staff. From an academic standpoint, I feel truly valued, the tutors are approachable, and there is a genuine sense of community that makes the learning environment feel encouraging and inclusive. It’s a great place to study if you’re looking for a university that treats you like an individual rather than just a number in a lecture hall. However, the experience is often marred by the poor state of the campus facilities, which feel increasingly disconnected from the high quality of the teaching. It is frustrating to navigate the daily costs of being a student here, particularly the high price of the canteen and the added financial burden of paying for parking. Furthermore, basic maintenance seems to be a recurring issue, it’s disappointing to find that the toilets are frequently broken or out of service. While the "human" side of the university is excellent, the physical infrastructure and the cost of daily life on campus definitely need significant improvement to match the caliber of the education provided.
There's little to no societies here in Cardiff, most of them are an hour away on public transport. Even the creative ones like music is not on the Cardiff campus. I think the lack of societies HEAVILY contributed to the closure of the student union bar, since no one had any reason to go there. There needs to be more societies on the Cardiff campus, or societies meeting up in Cardiff everyother week at the very least.
The facilities at USW Newport Campus are brilliant - we have access to the latest technology and industry practices. However, the student life at Newport Campus is very dull - events rarely take place in Newport, and it feels like outside of the campus there aren't many student social interactions.
Great student experience, made some great friends and a lovely learning environment, staff are really supportive and welcoming and have a wealth of knowledge to share. University facilities are outstanding however I do wish we could use them more when on campus teaching. Communication can sometimes be poor when not on campus . I am really enjoying studying and so pleased I chose to take the plunge .
