Web Development and Cyber Security - BSc (Hons)

University of Northampton

Every day, millions of people rely on websites, apps and online services to work, communicate, shop and manage their lives. As these digital services become more important, so does the need to keep them secure. If you're interested in the design, development, and implementation of robust and secure software applications that people can trust, this course combines web development and cyber security to help you build the knowledge and skills needed in both areas. You'll explore how modern web software is designed, developed and maintained, while learning why security must be considered at every stage of the process. Rather than treating cyber security as a separate discipline, you'll learn how secure design principles can be integrated into the development of robust online applications from the very beginning. Throughout the course, you'll develop practical skills in web software development while learning how to address the challenges involved in protecting such applications, systems and data. You'll explore how secure software operates across a range of devices, including laptops and smartphones, and gain insight into the threats and vulnerabilities faced by modern organisations. A key strength of the course is its focus on real-world application. You'll work with industry examples that bring theory to life and help you understand how developers and cyber security professionals tackle genuine challenges in practice. This allows you to build both technical capability and professional confidence as your studies progress. As well as learning how to create effective software solutions, you'll develop an understanding of the wider role cyber security plays in protecting personal information, business assets and digital services. Alongside technical knowledge, you'll strengthen your analytical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills. By graduation, you'll have experience in the development of cyber security resilient web software, giving you a valuable combination of knowledge and skills that can help prepare you for opportunities across secure web software development, cyber security and related areas of the digital economy.
