University of Birmingham

The university’s campus is very nice. Even though it is not in the city centre, we have our own campus where the facilities are very complete, allowing us to do various activities easily and comfortably. We are very proud of it.

I am a second-year Psychology student at the University of Birmingham and have had a very positive experience overall. One of the best aspects of the university is that it combines city life with the safety and community feel of a campus. The campus is clean, secure, and well maintained, with green spaces and historic buildings that make it a pleasant place to study and spend time. The location is a major advantage, with the city centre just a six-minute train journey away and excellent transport links from the university’s own station. Socially, there is a wide range of options, from nightlife to societies and activities for those who prefer quieter, non-drinking events. Academically, the university offers strong support through resources such as the Careers Network and Academic Skills Centre. Overall, the University of Birmingham provides a supportive, well-rounded experience both academically and socially, and I am very happy to be studying here. Birmingham has a preconception that it is dangerous and that crime rates are high however, this is just average for any big city so don't let it put you off as I deferent. One thing that could improve is while there is a good range of places to eat on campus, some options can be expensive for students. Increasing affordable meal choices or student discounts would help reduce daily costs. Something else that could be really helpful is First-year accommodation is well supported, but guidance on finding affordable and safe housing after first year could be improved, particularly for students moving into areas like Selly Oak.

I have had an extremely positive experience at the University of Birmingham and would highly recommend it. Coming from London, I was a little nervous about settling into a new city, but the university has been incredibly welcoming from the very start. The campus feels safe, well organised and supportive, which made the transition much easier and helped me feel at home quickly. The facilities are excellent and genuinely enhance student life. The 24/7 library is a huge advantage, especially during busy periods, and there are plenty of study spaces across campus to suit different ways of working. Everything feels well maintained and designed with students in mind. I study Psychology in Education and the teaching has been a real highlight. The lecturers are extremely knowledgeable, passionate about their subject, and very approachable. They are always willing to offer support, whether that is academic guidance or general advice, which creates a positive and encouraging learning environment. There is also a great variety of food options on and around campus, catering for different tastes and budgets. Overall, the University of Birmingham offers a brilliant balance of academic quality, strong support, and an enjoyable student experience.

The best experience is definitely the campus, people and the facilities. The campus always has exciting events going on and really is so fun to be around and motivating. The people are also so welcoming and it’s been such a breeze making friends that I enjoy being around. The facilities are also so accessible, like booking study rooms has been such a huge help to do assignments with my friends! I genuinely don’t think there is anything to improve. The only thing that comes to mind is that the cafe in the library always has a long line and the room opposite the cafe is so full majority of the time, which is quite sad but there are so many other spots I’ve discovered that are so cozy and quieter, where I can find a spot!

The campus is beautiful, and there are a lot of amazing study spaces. The student community is great as well as the support provided by the university in every aspect, be it academic, social, or well-being. I also think the university actively takes part in improving by using student feedback in all the ways that they can.
