Are you curious about the human mind, people's emotions and behaviours? Train for a career in Psychology with our British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited degree. You'll cover core BPS content including biological, cognitive, social, and developmental psychology. You'll also get the opportunity to explore specialised fields like mental health, counselling, forensic, health, business, and sport psychology. By blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment, along with opportunities for placements or study abroad, you'll graduate equipped with the skills needed to excel in your career.

Course overview

Join Keele's comprehensive BPS-accredited Psychology programme with a modern curriculum, systematically exploring the mind, brain and behaviour. Designed to prepare you for a successful career in psychology, our programme equips you with essential skills in both quantitative and qualitative research, ensuring a thorough understanding of diverse psychological methodologies that you can apply to your learning throughout your degree. You will explore a breadth of topics from social, cognitive and biological psychology, building a foundation to your degree which you can tailor through optional modules across areas including forensics, business and sport and exercise psychology.

As an emerging researcher, you will gain experience with data analysis, report writing and practical sessions that enable you to apply your learning and draw upon psychological theories explored as part of your programme of study. You will have access to a range of facilities and equipment, including virtual reality headsets, brain stimulation devices, and our state-of-the-art Central Science Laboratories. As you progress through your degree you will be able to further explore areas of personal interests, enabling you to dig deeper and tailor your degree to your career interests through module selection.

Work Placement Year

Gain hands-on experience with an optional placement year in between years two and three of your degree programme. This valuable character-building experience will help you to prepare for the workplace by spending a year in industry, developing skills and knowledge, whilst drawing on psychological principles, theories and methods. With this experience, you will become well prepared for employment and strengthen your prospects for life after university.

Foundation year

Our Foundation Year provides an excellent alternative route to Keele, providing a unique opportunity to better prepare for your chosen degree, and with guaranteed entry onto your undergraduate course once you successfully complete your Foundation Year.

This extra year of study can improve your academic skills, expand your subject knowledge, give you a better understanding of higher education and, perhaps most importantly of all, build your confidence.

Your future career

95% of Keele students are in employment or further study within 15 months of finishing their studies (HESA Graduate Outcomes, 2019/20)

A psychology degree opens a wide variety of career options in both science and the arts. The unique combination of skills that characterise the study of psychology are transferable across disciplines and into the world of work. You will acquire skills in oral and written communication, the use of IT, numeracy and data analysis, project management, team working, problem-solving, and skills in research methodology.
