**Location**
This course is run at our Canterbury Campus in Kent. Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. You’ll benefit from a campus with excellent learning and teaching resources, music venues, a superb sports centre, a well-stocked bookshop and plenty of coffee bars and places to eat. This module is all about becoming a psychologist. It introduces the multiple career paths available to you. Each lecture is presented by a different psychologist working in a specific field of applied psychology. By focusing on the complexities of real-world applications, this module prepares you for independent and critical thinking and encourages you to engage with contemporary debates on topics like intelligence, gender or prejudice.
This module is the culmination of your subject learning on the BSc Psychology. Building on the foundations laid by previous modules, here you will learn about more advanced psychological insights and the cutting edge of current psychological investigation. Connecting psychology with relevant other disciplines, we will look at how humans interact with the built and technological environment, how new methods and devices unlock ground-breaking knowledge, and how psychology might be put to good use in the future.
In this module, you will be bringing together the skills and knowledge you have gained and developed so far in your degree and using them to conduct your own psychological research. Under supervision from our experienced staff, you will undertake the entire research journey from research question, through methodology development and data collection, to analysis and scientific report writing. Your final year research project is a core requirement of the BPS and becomes a demonstration of how much you have learnt in your degree, and an output you can be truly proud of.
Building on your existing research knowledge, this module equips you with advanced research competencies essential for both industry and postgraduate pathways. You will master industry-standard statistical software and specialised data collection tools and develop comprehensive skills in data analysis and reporting across diverse psychological contexts. Through hands-on experience with current methodological approaches, you will build confidence in independent research design, implementation, and analysis.
