Develop your creative skills and professional practice. You'll work with industry clients to design products that make a difference.
As part of this course, you’ll:
Gain insight into user requirements, economic, environmental and ethical considerations, as well as materials, manufacturing, production and industry capabilities
Use your insights to help inform the design of your products
Design a range of products for both commercial and domestic use, including furniture, interior products, consumer goods and sustainable products
Work on live industry briefs, which will ensure you’ll be working in real world settings to design products that make a positive contribution to the world around us

Teaching & Learning
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.
Career Prospects
Your course will shape your career, giving you the creative, technical, research, design and presentation skills needed to work as a product designer across a wide range of industries. You could go on to work in a design studio, for a consultancy, as a product designer for an organisation, or you could offer your services as a freelance designer. Alternatively, you may choose to set up your own studio or progress onto postgraduate study in the UK or overseas.
