The online Diploma in Acute Medicine gives you the opportunity to help shape the future of this rapidly evolving multi-disciplinary specialty. There’s an increasing demand for consultants in acute medicine so job prospects are excellent.

Run in partnership with Diploma MSc, this is a theoretical course that aims to supplement the education of existing healthcare professionals, as opposed to a practical course in acute medicine. You will develop a systematic understanding of evidence-based, protocol-delivered practice, which is crucial in optimising acute care.

You will also learn how to use relevant methodologies and approaches to address complex issues of patient management across the spectrum of medical specialties that comprise acute medicine, and the ability to critically evaluate evidence and implement best practice in complex scenarios.

Assessment

The acute medicine course puts assessment at the heart of learning by using clinical scenarios to facilitate problem-solving, critical analysis and evidence-based care. The scenarios act as both the focus for learning and assessment, embedding assessment within the learning process.

Each of the six modules has the same assessment format:

  • Academic Forum - 40%
  • Reflective Journal - 10%
  • Group/individual activity - 20%
  • Case based examination - 30%

Careers

Students will benefit from being taught life-long learning and advanced problem-solving skills that they can apply to clinical practice in acute medicine.
