The PGCE is designed for graduates who would like to become a qualified teacher in the Further Education sector. The PGCE incorporates the Diploma in Education and Training (DET). This qualification will allow you to meet the initial training requirements for membership of the Society for Education and Training and will underpin an application for Qualified Teacher of Learning and Skills (QTLS) statusA teaching placement is an essential requirement of this course. During the course this placement will inform taught sessions and enable you to contextualise and apply key principles of learning.AssessmentAssessment of each module will be through both coursework and practice elements (including teaching observations). There are no formal exams associated with this course.You will carry out teaching practice for at least 100 contact hours, where you will also get invaluable help from other experienced teachers of your subject. Your tutor will support both parts of your training, alongside other experienced teachers who will regularly observe and support your development as a teacher.
Applicants should hold a degree qualification and a minimum grade C or above in GCSE English and maths or equivalent qualifications.
